Propane tank guage

I have a 2018 HJ and the tank gauge is not reading correctly. I went to have the tank filled and it would only take 6.2 lbs. The gauge on the tank is reading 1/4 tank and the gauge on the panel is ready 2/3.

Do these fail often? Does the gauge snap-on? When I look up a replacement some are listed as screw-in and some as snap-on.

Thanks for your help and feedback in advance.

There are two parts, what is inside the tank can stay in the tank (most often) and you can slide that gauge off and easily replace it. It gets its reading from a magnet which is connected to the float inside the tank. Amazon and RV parts places sell the gauge by itself and you can replace it without taking the part that goes into the tank out. ~CA

BTW, because it works with a magnet, and perhaps someone here has more details, I wonder if it matters that the gauge is level with the tank. On mine for example the reading (writing on the gauge) is exactly level with the tank. You should (may) be able to twist your gauge slightly and level it up horizontal with the tank and see if it changes.

I replaced the gauge with the same result. Any other ideas what it might be? Still reads 1/4 on the gauge at the tank and 2/3 on the panel inside by the bathroom sink.
