Replaced Equalizer Motor

While preparing for my upcoming summer trip, I decided to check the Equalizer leveling system. All of a sudden the system stops with the jacks just touching the ground. The panel worked like it should but the jacks wouldn’t move.

And here comes a big shout out to Alex at Equalizer Tech support. After multiple phone calls Alex had me troubleshoot the system to where we determined the motor went bad.

I was able to order on the motor from Equalizer on Thursday for $200, received it yesterday and installed it today. It was a PIA but not terrible.

I can’t thank Alex enough for the support and guidance. I am impressed with Equalizer’s customer support.

Just over three years. There were some burnt spots on the winding. Not sure why.

Sarcasm aside... I am GLAD you got it fixed - and hope to connect with you and JoAnn later this year!

Good thing this happened at home during a pre-trip ops check. That would have been a real PITA if it happened on the road. Jayco replaced my pump (everything but the manifold) under warranty last June because I had a slow hydraulic leak out of the back of the motor case. Turned out that the shaft seal was bad. Having a jack issue on the road worries me more than any other issue, especially having an "O" ring blow out like RVermont experienced.
For those who haven't done so, I recc. getting underneath and getting familiar with the procedure in the Equalizer user guide for manually retracting the jacks with a drill. I carry a plug-in electric drill (they recc 2000 rpm) just for this purpose. Also bought a 6" 6mm hex drive bit and taped it to the drill. The hex drive on the motor is a little difficult to get to with a standard length bit. Also, the manifold valves that have to be manually turned (opened, then closed) were also difficult to get to. After getting under and getting familiar with the set-up made me realize that you don't want to get familiar with the procedures the first time when you are potentially in a RV park trying to depart and your jack motor fails.

Mark, enjoy your summer trip! We are departing for another 5 week western excursion Sept 10. Can't wait...been cooped-up since mid-March.

Can't imagine replacing the motor. Today all I did was add some fluid(can't find any leaks so must have been low from day one) and it was a royal PITA for an old man like me. Tank has no fill plug, only vent plug which is quite hard to get out and even harder to get back in.

I was also impressed with Equalizers customer support. I was always getting false jack deployment alarms when driving down the road. Lights, buzzers etc going off. Someone here on this forum had the same problem and said they solved the problem by talking to Equalizer and Support sent them a DV2 Kit that solved the problem. I called Equalizer and they asked me some questions and sent me a DV2 Kit, my dealer put it on, Problem Solved.
