Schwintek slide inspection.
Something to watch for on the Schwintek slide system . On the outer frame, just below the gear track on the slide wall, there is an aluminum pop rivet. There is one visible and one beside it under the seal. These rivets hold the steel Gib block to the aluminum frame, there is one inside and one outside. While I was inspecting and lubing my seals, I noticed that the head of the rivet was missing. Inspecting further, the Gib block was loose in the guide block, both inside and outside of the frame. Pulling the seal back, I was able to get the block out using a pick set, then drilled out the old rivet. Using needle nose pliers, I got the block back in place but the holes were a little off. I had to jack the slide up about 1/4” to get the holes to line up. Then using a highly precision tool I made (bent piece of aluminum) I was able to put the tool behind the block and hold it out so the pop rivet would pull it tight to the frame. The outside went pretty good but the inside was a challenge as I only have about 10” between the slide and wall to work in. Took me about 4 hours to do inside and outside and there were a few choice words 😅 Good thing to check these rivets once in a while.
