Seneca - Air Leak Detection

Was reading the latest posts to the ‘Seneca Compressor – All Quiet Now’ thread https://www.jaycoowners.com/forums/f...now-43508.html and got me to thinking I may have an air leak somewhere because the thread starter said his air bags hold air for a month or so. Mine definitely don’t hold that long. What’s your experience? Would I search out a leak with a soapy water at each connection? Also, how often would you say your air compressor cycles when going down the highway with minimal brake use? Mine seems to cycle every 20 minutes or so.

I get a week or two if the unit is just sitting on the bags. As for driving down the road it really depends on the road conditions but 20 minutes seems about right, I seem to have lost my awareness of the compressor cycling, when I first installed the air dryer the sound of the air exhaust would jolt me and I was afraid it was going to bother me, now I hardly notice it. I don’t notice the compressor on at all and have to look at the gauges to see if it is cycling on.

Hi Rick,

When I picked my Seneca up in April '17, the first thing that caught my attention on the way home was the compressor firing off about every minute. Didn't take long to figure I had a significant leak. Took it to Freightliner and the tech replaced an elbow under warranty. He didn't go into any more detail but said that Freightliner secondary air leaks are very common. Mine has settled down and it takes quite a while before I hear the compressor go off when I'm driving. My air bags still settle in about a day, maybe a little less. I plan to get under it this fall and do a thorough check for leaks using soapy water just as a preventative maintenance issue.

Air leaks

Sometimes I can set for 7 - 10 days and still have 70+ lbs of air but most of the time my air is empty from stopping in the evening and starting the next morning - I’m thinking that there may be air trying to fill my rear suspension ( not always ) while I’m parked - I haven’t crawled under to see if i can hear any air leaking ( don’t know if it would be enough to hear ) Les
