Seneca awning

Has anyone replaced their factory Seneca 37TS awning with a different manufacturer after it failed or collapsed? Ours collapsed in Las Vegas under rain and or wind. Its getting replaced with insurance, but I was hoping there is a better manufacturer. I don't know who made the original as I had to have the rv repair company take it with them as I had no way to get it home.

Your rig came from Jayco with a Carefree of Colorado Travel'r awning, it is considered one of their "budget" awnings. More frequently found on travel trailers than larger motorhomes.

I lost mine in a microburst in 2016, and after talking directly with Carefree they told me (what I mentioned above) about the Travel'r. They also told me that their Eclipse arms were more robust than the Travel'r, and after swapping-out the old arms for the new Eclipse versions I can tell you they are substantially heavier.

In my incident just the front (motorized) arm was trashed. My acrylic awning fabric itself was fine, as was the awning roller tube itself. So all I needed were the new arms, which I found a good deal (then) from PPL Motor Homes. I also ordered the "Direct Response Electronics" system which provides some protection by automatically stowing the awning if it senses winds picking up. Even with that system I 'learned my lesson" and bring it in at the slightest hint of storms.

So I saved money by sticking with another Carefree, reusing my tube and fabric. And I am very happy with my choice 8 years out.

Thanks, good to know. I will ask RV repair to order the Eclips. Also the whole awying is trash, both arm bent up pretty bad and the motorized roller snapped at the end, so I guess I could put a whole new manufacturer
