Seneca - Camco 15/30 amp adaptor for 45 amps

I recently purchased a Camco adaptor to try and get both a/c's running when only 30 and 15 amp plugs are available. Doesn't work on my 2014 Seneca. Camco website states that it will not work on GFI plugs, which I understand. Won't work without GFI also (at home). Has anyone tried this?

You cannot get any more power from a campground power pedestal than it's supplied with.
Usually, the 15 amp receptacle is branching off the 30 amp feed.
In other words, 30 amps is all you can get from a 30 amp pedestal, no matter how it's hooked up....

The only way this could work, is if there is a separate 30 amp feed AND a separate 15 amp feed going to the pedestal from the main power source. It is quite doubtful that a campground would run their power like that.

X2

The few times we have been in this situation when it is HOT and needed the second AC, we fired up the generator and ran the second AC until the inside was cooled down enough. We also look at putting the big awning out a couple of feet to shade the outside of the Seneca... it sucks a lot of heat inside due to the dark color exterior.

Devices of this type, which are supposed to combine two power sources into one larger source, make me nervous.

The Camco Item #55025 device documentation states that it won't work with GFI receptacles.
  • The power usage can be unbalanced between line and neutral, which is what GFI receptacles protect against.
  • The power source wiring is not being used as designed. Depending on the wiring of the power source, some wiring (neutral wires) may be overloaded.

There's another thing.... 50 amp feeds to RVs are typically two 50 amp feed lines with a center-neutral reference. The Camco device does not actually provide a combined 45 amps. It provides 30 amps to one side of your power panel, and only 15 amps to the other side of the power panel.
