Seneca front sway bar....

Has anyone changed the bushings on the front sway bar of a M2 chassis? Mine were gone at 3500 miles!

Several threads here on the forum, many owners with units even newer than yours have had their replaced. As a matter of fact there is a revised design, but if you are out of warranty it isn't cheap. Freightliner has a Service Bulletin describing the fix and itemizing the parts.

Surprisingly, I have about 24,000 miles on mine, but my bushings are still intact. Go figure!

I thought I’d seen something. Yes it’s out of warranty. I’ll look for the thread.

I’m gonna call Freightliner tomorrow and get the price on the Clevis links. Can’t believe they charge $2400 to replace the links and new brackets for the frame. Thanks for the picture with the old and new links!

Had ours upgraded to clevis design last fall under Freightliner chassis warranty.

You might try making a polite fuss, it is so common it obviously is a manufacturing defect. The Service Bulletin was published before our rigs were built I think. Maybe they would even meet you halfway? Might have to involve someone in Freightliner Corp., but the worst they could do would be to say "no".

Did mine Saturday...

Used the red polyurethane bushings as discussed. Bored out to 1/2", easy off, easy on.

Ordered from suspension.com
Details Name Unit Price Quantity Total
9.8103 End Link Grommets - Truck $6.50 1 $6.50
Color: - Red - -
Exclusive for DST Customers: - Free Lifetime Warranty Upgrade - -
Sub Total: $6.50
Shipping: $4.88
Grand Total: $11.38

By the way, I used my floor jack to lift up on the bar just a tad so I could get the bolt on the top. The new ones are a bit stout as compared to the old dried out rubber OEM.

Service Bulletin

There is actually a service bulletin in those older sway bars where Freightliner realized they are inadequate from 2010. They replaced mine free of charge when I showed them the bulletin. I tried to post the bulletin which was given to me by another member of the forum.

When I was at Knox Truck Centers (on recommendation of MarkS), they did that upgrade, and added 1/2 inch pressure to rear suspension (and the Matt Lazier custom transmission reprogram). I no longer look like BA driving the Ateam van (wheel back and forth constantly).
