I feel pretty good now. We finally got our 2020 37TS out on its first long trip. SoCal to Missouri and back 3,700 miles. First leg out of California 9.2 mpg then over 10 for the rest of the trip. Mileage for the entire trip was 10.0 mpg towing Jeep Grand Cherokee, tires at 105 and cruising 65 with trans in mode.
(Also used between 10-11 gallons of DEF. )
this would be about 3-4 mpg better than my gas class A but the cost of diesel and DEF make it more expensive.

My toad is a 4400 LBS truck with a versahaul and scooter and they weigh 400 LBS. My question is if I leave the toad home and just put the scooter on the Rv any idea what mpg I will gain losing the 4400 LBS ???
No gauge will help with MPG. They just monitor. How you drive will get you the best MPG. Here are my tips:

1. If you don’t leave home, you will get excellent MPG’s. Best actually.
2. Drive only on flat roads.
3. 70 MPH is too dangerous for any rig, so slow down and enjoy the view. You won’t get there any faster at 70 vs 65, but you MPG will improve, by 1 at least. Plus your tires are not rated for 70 MPH.
4. Use a biocide for any storage. You don’t want bacteria in your tank. Trust me, I had that on one. Some folks call it algae, but algae needs sunlight, it’s bacteria.
5. Don’t run your generator if you don’t have too. It’s sucking diesel, but to be honest, it only sips so not really an issue.
6. Put a diesel treatment in supported by Cummins, keeps injectors clean.
7. Seven, lucky seven and the best tip of all…..Unload weight. I left my wife at home last trip and those were the best MPG’s ever!!!!!

I live in Colorado so driving on flat roads is going to be a little difficult.

As for the 70 is dangerous and you won’t get there any faster. We have done 6-7 trips from Denver to the Orlando/Tampa area. It’s roughly 4000 miles round trip. We pretty much put the cruise control on at 80 the entire way and have done trips pulling a wrangler and trips pulling my 30 ft enclosed cargo trailer. I have never once felt even a little out of control. If we averaged 65 for 4000 miles it would take us 61 plus hours. If we averaged 80 for 4000 miles it would take us 50 hours. Now I know you have fuel stops etc etc but you have same driving 80 or 65. Driving 65 vs 80 would take us more then 11 extra hours. For those retired 100% agree take your time. But I’m still young and have two young children and want to get where we are going quickly. We usually do 10-14 hour driving days getting there and returning. Both me and my wife both drive which makes it pretty easy. I’ve tested my fuel mileage at both 65 and 80 and it’s about 1 to 1.2 difference. So it’s going to cost me about 200-250 more in fuel (at the current crazy $5 prices) for the trip which for me and my family is totally worth it to stay another day or two at the destination.

Everyone is different and my advice is to do what feels comfortable.

After experimenting travelling at various speeds, I seem to get the best at 62 MPH, just as you have said. I have had my 2014 TS for 7 1/2 years and have approximately 56,000 miles on it. I tow a Chevy Colorado ZR2 that weighs a little under 5,000 lbs. My overall MPG is around 9 MPG, maybe with a little tail wind.

I am towing a 2013 full size GMC pickup. Over Thanksgiving, we went to Houston and back. I set the cruise at 65 MPH. According to my Bluefire I got 9.0 MPG.

For those using the Bluefire, have any of you got the DEF trip MPG working. I thought I did, but it is showing I am getting over 8000 MPG in DEF. I know that is not right. It should be closer to 175 MPG DEF.

My 3,700 mile trip from California to Missouri we used around 10-11 gallons of DEF.
