Seneca fuel mileage

We have a 6000 mile trip out west next month. Just bought a scan gauge to help with mpg. Just some quick math if I get 10 mpg that’s 600 gallons @ let’s say $7.00 a gallon is $4200.00 for fuel. My toad is a 4400 LBS truck with a versahaul and scooter and they weigh 400 LBS. My question is if I leave the toad home and just put the scooter on the Rv any idea what mpg I will gain losing the 4400 LBS ???

I feel getting 10pm is very optimistic, probably be more like 8-9. I have never seen much variance in mileage, not towing, towing our 5k Jeep or 11k stacker, it’s alway between 8 and 8.5. I run the Bluefire for Motorhomes and it pulls overall mileage from the ECU since first startup, last time I looked it showed an average of 8.1 overall so far for the total hours. I have found the best mileage comes cruising at about 62mph.

Rustynuts , I had to laugh when you called me out on 10mpg. Wishful thinking on my part. I’ll take the toad. I’ve never done 62mph but I better learn quickly! Thank you for your knowledge, much appreciated!

Slow down and enjoy the trip. I used to always drive fast but now find it much more enjoyable at a slower pace and enjoying the scenery

Totally agree w/61-63 mph. Able to stay in the right hand lane & no worries. 8.5 mpg towing 5400 lbs. Silverado Crew Cab.

With a toad on behind my mileage drops by about one mpg but the real topic with this is if you worry about mpg while RVing you will have heart issues. If anyone on this site bought an RV and was thinking that they were going to get good gas mileage they were smoking something.

Now you can try to set your mph and save a penny or two, and that is about what you are saving, or you can set the mileage, forget the wind, forget the fuel prices and just enjoy the trip.

If you worry about the mpg, sell the RV and find another direction for your live.

An example: with the Cyclone toyhauler on behind the Duramax, mpg climbing to Flagstaff was 4 mpg. On the flats of NM with a crosswind it was 6. With a tailwind it was 12-14. With a headwind it was 3-5. No wind, flat ground, 65 mph it was 10-12.

With this rig it is 7 and with the Jeep on behind it is 6. Wind, flat ground mph makes no difference. Who cares

My lifted Jeep JK costs me 1-1.5 mpg to tow. Speed makes a big difference in mpg as well as wind. I have a unique gift that allows me to drive into the wind no matter what direction I am traveling. Lol

Before we retired I would always drive long and hard since time was limited. On our first trip after I retired we passed a giant chicken made of car mufflers while passing through Dothan Alabama. My wife missed it so I turned around so she could see it. Amazed that I turned around, she said “Wow, you really are retired”. I’ve learned, it is the journey not just the destination. Slow down and enjoy, especially at todays fuel prices.

I am towing a 6,000 pound lifted Jeep JLUR with my 2022 Seneca. Fully loaded with way too many throw pillows and other junk. This time I only put a small amount of water in the fresh water tank as we had full hookups when we got here. Just drove from Denver, CO to Lake Havasu, AZ which is hilly almost the entire way. I average between 8-8.5 with the cruise control set between 65-68 most of the time, much slower over the passes for safety. I tried 63 for a while and the RPM's and MPG did not make much of a difference.

Towing our 4 door wrangler, 2000 mile trip from the start of I65 to the end and back my 2 way average was 10.04 mpg. Cruise set at 64 mph, 2014 Seneca with the 360 hp upgrade and using the stanadyne performance fuel additive. Tires @90 psi . Hills or wind drops to around 9-9.5

I get better mileage in the Seneca pulling a 11.5k trailer than I ever did in my Class A gasser and Class C Ford.

We get better fuel mileage in our Seneca... than anything we have run...

If you are expecting to run a rig running at 33,000LBS or more and get better than 9MPG in the western states... Well you might get that or better for the 100-mile leg that is down hill...

For us... we roll heavy, fast and steady... we fuel when the gauge gets below 1/3 and more than often never get to know how many gallons we pumped, or throw the receipt away as it comes out of the pump...

We are going to be heading to Moab in a couple of weeks... No matter how much Brandon has raised the fuel prices.. We ARE GOING!

Save it. The 'Brandon's fault' crew have black water for brains.
