Seneca generator

We are currently in travel from Texas to Chico California in our 2020 Seneca. We had the generator on while running the front room air. We had it on for about 4 hours and it suddenly turned off. We were in the Palm Springs area where temps were about 115 degrees. I left it off until we arrived at our overnight stop. Checked all fluids. Everything was fine. It started right up with no error codes. I’m guessing it shut down due to high temperature. Anyone think that may have been the culprit?

With outside temp running around 115 the road temp was probably about 10 degrees higher. There is the possibility that the generator overheated and shut down. Onan generators have been known to do that especially in the confined spaces of a motorhomes generator compartment. On some of their gassers Thor had started putting vents on the generator compartment doors to increase air circulation because of heat related shut downs.

As long as the coolant level is correct and the generator restarts after cooling there shouldn't be any damage. If it happens repeatedly or fails to restart after a period of cooling you might want to have it check out.

Ours has always thrown a code when it shut down...

Ours will also shut down when the gen is in AUTO mode. If the drive engine is started when the gen is in auto mode - the gen will shut down. It's a safety feature. You can have it in Auto mode while the engine is running, but when the ignition is turned off and back on - the gen will shut down.
