Clearance Issues

Although I am new to Seneca's, I have RV'd with 5th wheels for almost 15 years. After having to back out of a low bridge situation, I picked up a truckers road atlas at the next truck stop. No problems since.

As SloPoke mentioned, we were in Tennessee a couple of years ago and heading to a Walmart for an overnight. We use the Allstays app and in the comments section about this Walmart, other users had posted about the low clearance poles but also posted that there was one entrance around the back of the shopping center that RVs could get into. We did so and camped next to another Class A.

Hi if you stop at any truck stop Flying J you can purchase a cheap Rand McNally map which will show all low overpass heights. All Interstates are good the secondary state Hwy have the low spots.
The map costs about $10. Try and buy previous year instead of current as not much changes.

About 20 miles south of Richmond.

My 5th wheel is supposedly 13' 6" high. We ran upon an overpass in New York signed at 12' 6". We were able to stop and look at the clearance and then proceeded with no issues. It was early morning on a two lane rural route. Keep in mind that the bridge clearances can be posted lower than they actually are. I know they do this in Missouri. That is the lowest posting we have ran across.

Hi Barry,
I have a 2017 Seneca and I too was worried. Before my Seneca I had a Hartland Sundance which is a low profile 5th wheel 11' something. So I purchase 2 items

1) The Garmin RV770 which has a built in Morothome profile which you create
2)LowClearance Low Clearance POI - GPS Data You can add this to any GPS and your phone oh yea, and google earth. As other people have posted I too have not any issues with low clearance bridges but they are out there. It interesting seeing them on Google Earth.

Don't get off the interstate in Chicago. Notorious for low underpasses besides other bad things that can happen to you there.

I just ordered a 2020 Entegra Accolade and will be buying the Garmin 770 RV / Truck GPS. One would think that Jayco would include that as the standard GPS on these models.

Thanks everyone for your feedback.

I don’t know how many of you have actually measured your Senecas but I am in the planning stage of mounting a Weboost antenna and want to make sure it is below the tallest thing on the roof. I marked a 14’ 2x4 in inch increments from 12-14’ and screwed it to a post in my pole building. Then using a level with a built in laser checked everything and the tallest thing was the rear A/C at 13’ 4”, the laser does have a 1/2” offset to the bottom of the level so it is actually 13th 3.5”. My 2018.5 came with the Fusion/Garmin dash unit which you can set your heights and widths on and I have it set at 13’6” and it has warned me several time.

I too have the Garmin 770 but am not pleased with some of its routing. I think we should be using routing tools/apps truckers use. Anyone have info on them?

We have at least 5 giant yellow flashing light signs within 3 miles of my house warning truckers that their GPS is wrong. The systems try taking them down a narrow winding road and over a 10 ton bridge. The truckers’ routing may not be any better.

Since our prior post... we have camped in a few WM parking lots...

every one has their own unique labyrinth of navigating the parking lot to find a place to park amidst the trucks and other RV's. It all depends on the location for what you will find. All you need to prepare for... is to be ready to move at a moments notice - and that includes backing up a good distance to get out of the parking lot.
