Seneca HJ - Living Room T-Stat Meets Slide

The edge of the wood frame on our slide scraped the face of the thermostat when we were breaking camp this week. Didn't damage it but left a scratch in the wood. Our rig was level with the landing gear down when this happened. I had previously noticed that the clearance was pretty small and apparently there is enough fore-aft movement in the Power Gear slide mechanism for contact to sometimes occur. Relocating the t-stat is not an easy option, so I'm thinking:

1. Shave some of the wood off the frame to clear it.
2. Manually push the slide forward to maximize clearance
3. See if I can pop the cover off the T-stat.

Anyone experience this or have an opinion on how best to address without shop involvement?

Thanks.

Rick

It sounds as though the slide out vertical alignment needs to be checked and possibly adjusted.

If it is a Powergear driven slide out they have instructions on their website for adjustments.

Thanks, you have the best answer I believe except it is the horizontal (fore-aft) adjustment I need to make. Saw a video on doing that adjustment. I suspect the lateral adjustment bolts securing the slide to the Power Gear mechanism have loosened allowing this shift. Now on to seeing how best to access the bolts, loosen them all, bump the slide over for even side gaps, then tighten bolts.

Typically a BFH is used, striking at the ends of the rails once the bolts are loosened and slide out will move fore and aft.

If the slide out has moved on its own it may continue to move and much more damage can be done (speaking from experience here).

We have just the tool and found it on the shoreline at the lake this summer;

Opinions??? You came to the right place!

How much clearance do you think you need? If 1/64th or 1/32nd of an inch, then I'd be tempted to grab a block plane and do #1.

Much more than that, I'd be thinking about recessing the thermostat. You could probably get a 1/16th or 1/8th" by recessing.

Please keep us posted, especially if you do any PowerGear slide adjustments.

Well, your BFH certainly trumps my BAH in the size department. So, I'm thinkinking (that's a double thought) I will loosen the bolts then get rolling to 5 mph or so and hit the brakes. This sudden momentum shift should move the slide enough to center it properly. Tighten bolts, adjustment complete.⏭⏮

Indeed! Thank you for your suggestions. I'm going to attempt to correct the root alignment issue instead of wood carving at this point.

What do you have for a thermastat? We damaged our oem thermastat, when I replaced it with one from the big box store, it was much thinner. This might be an easy option.

That's a thought. Please let us know how that works out. Ours needs to be adjusted as well.
We wouldn't even have to pull it out the extended driveway to do that.

It's a black Coleman Mach device with a tiny display. Not as primitive as an analog device, but certainly a very basic electronic controller. So if your replacement worked it must be 12V compatible?

We upgraded the t-stats in our first RV a few years back and used this one which worked fine for both locations, living and bed room;
