Seneca Idle

The Seneca has been in our warehouse for the last couple of weeks getting the finish reworked. Went this morning to start it and turn it around and found that it wants to idle at 1000rpm. It has never done this before. Before I call the dealer, has anybody had this before? We leave in 3 weeks for Florida. Thanks!!

Even if you step on the brake?

I can manually trigger a high idle using the cruise control "Accel" switch, and sometimes just sitting running it will idle itself up without my input. I attribute it to needing to heat up the exhaust catalyst system up to maintain proper emissions.

No change when I apply the brake. I think I will try and take it out on Saturday and run it down the road and see what happens.

If it's cold it may 'high idle", many diesels do that. As Robbbyr said, it's to accelerate warm up.

I don't think I've ever noticed mine automatically going to high-idle, but my wife's Audi 3.0 TDI as well as several power strokes I've had, in the past, did that automatically when they were trying to get warmed up. Was it especially cold?

No. It's in our warehouse. 65 degrees.

Then it could have gone into regen for the exhaust emmissions.

This right here is very likely. Do you know when the last time it went into regen was?

The Allison will prevent the operator from selecting a gear if the RPMs are too high.

WINNER

Our Seneca will go to high idle when it is going thru an exhaust regen.. it will last about 5 minutes and then go back down to normal.

Parked regen

I often let mine idle while I get water before parking for the week at work. Some times it will idle up and I am assuming this is a parked regeneration of the after treatment.

Interesting thing happened this week where it had just started idleing up and had been up for about 30 seconds when my wife shut it off (no understanding what was happening). Started up 30 min later and it went right back to the high idle before normalizing.
