Finally getting the paint fixed. I will post finished product when they are done. This is day two of a three day process.

Who is fixing the paint and what was the nature of the defect(s)?

I am having my buddy take care of it. He owns a high end detail shop in the area. The paint had bad swirl marks from the factory. Jayco is taking care of it under warranty.

I wonder if Jayco switched who they contract out the painting to? My 2014 had nothing going on like that!

I don't know. Per my buddy, it's really bad. Looks like an amateur did it. I know when we went to the factory, the rep said the paint department was backed up. Figure they were just getting them out as fast as they could. I'm just glad they're taking care of it and let me use my guy.

Whoever did that should have their buffer shoved where the sun doesn't shine! That's horrible!!!!

Wow I am glad you had someone local that you trust that could take care of that. Our unit was built around the same time and no issues like that.

Best wishes on a good repair.

Let us know how it turns out. Wonder if they buffed it out too early.

Are the base colors having to be re-shot, or just the top clear? Or just re-buffing?

I have the same paint scheme on mine, and, while I do not have the swirl issues you have (had) I would save in general, the overall factory paint job is piss poor - obvious they are working too fast, with inexperienced prep and paint personnel. Just take a close look, I’m sure you will find over spray, orange peel, and paint sags if you look hard enough......

Right now they are just buffing it. There are some spots where the clear is messed up. They are going to try and fix those areas with more aggressive pads. My buddy was showing me how they didn't buff close to the moldings, handles, and windows. He also was showing me all the imperfections in the paint process. Nothing that can be fixed, as it’s below the clear. Really nothing you are going to see unless you have a light and a good eye. He details really high end cars (Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, etc.) and is a perfectionist. Told him no one in the campground is going to notice those imperfections. One side is buffed and it's night and day. Can't wait for it to be done so we can put it out in the sun for the final test. I'll keep you guys posted.

I can't believe Jayco let something like that off their lot. Looks more like a rookie wannabe tech took a wheel to it. Didn't you see that before you purchased, I sure would not have closed a deal with that damage.

Unfortunately we picked it up on a cloudy day. You really can't notice it unless it's out in the sun. Fortunately for us we are really close with our dealer. This is our third unit with them. I've also done some work for them and worked a couple of the RV shows for them. They are making sure everything gets taken care of through Jayco.

So, this whole thing was due to someone who was rushing through using a rotary buffer. Those are called holograms. It has nothing to do with the painting process.

It would be doubtful that Jayco had anything to do with that problem and more likely the dealer.

Definitely was a piss poor job detailing, whomever did it.

The big question is, did they just buff it out or did they actually go through and put coating on it? If someone is going to take the time to buff everything to near perfect condition, that is really the only time you can apply a semi-permanent ceramic (or other) based coating that will last for a few years.

Buffing that size motorhome to remove the holograms would probably cost Jayco around $1,500 (or more) and adding a coating would be another $1k or so.

I know it wasn't the dealer. All they did was wash it.

Yes, they are just done with the buffing and will move on to the prep for the coating. They have to make one more pass with a wax/buffing primer and then it will get an alcohol wash down. Then they will apply a 2 year coating.

Looks much better already. I'm still surprised quality inspection would let that coach go out the door.
