Hi everyone. I hope you don't think this is a silly question but can one of you tell me where the oil filter is on a 2017 rb 37. I see two filters that both say fuel on them. And do you know how to tell if you have a 15 or 17 quart oil pan. Thanks.

I just did my 2016 , the oil filter is passenger side kinda up high in relation to under chassis.
more towards front of engine. 16 quarts is full;

As someone who maintains my unit myself I have found the Cummins Quickserve Online to be helpful. As individual owners Cummins allows us to have accounts where a plethora of information is available. Early in my ownership of my Seneca I registered and received access. You need your engine serial number when you register. You can even add your generator to your account since it is a Cummins product.

Using my account I saved the overall engine layout (attachment below), it shows the position of the oil filter on the right side of the engine. Of course in real life it is buried behind things, but I haven't had any trouble coming up from underneath to change mine.

Also per Quickserve my particular oil pan installed on my engine has a low capacity of 17 quarts and a high of 19. That is just the oil pan, not including what remains in the oil filter when you remove it. So I put 19 quarts back in mine at oil changes and it is well within the dipstick normal range.

If you are planning to change your own oil I would strongly recommend that you swap the oil pan drain plug for a Fumoto valve. Makes the next oil change mess-free when you have to drain it later. I also installed one on my generator. Both of my valves also have the (optional) lock collar to make extra certain they can't open accidentally. Make sure you research your engine(s) before you buy any valves. Although I think they are all the same on the chassis engine, things might have changed.

As far as removing the oil filter I use a strap wrench to break it loose, then I reach up and screw it the rest of the way off. I put a small garbage over it and it contains most of the oil after the filter starts to loosen.

The EZ Drain part # is EZ-106 & the adaptor # is A-610 and I like the straight hose end which is part # H-001
Different brand and very good quality

But the valve requires an adapter that screws into the oil pan with 1/4" pipe thread and then the Fumoto screws into it. It is here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Be aware the Fumoto website shows the 8KW Cummins/Onan could have one of two different oil pan threads, so you need to check what yours is prior to ordering.

It makes draining the generator so easy, I just wish the oil filter was a little easier to access!

Can you provide the part number for the oil filter? Are you using the FleetGuard LF3970 or do you run something else? Also, what oil are you running on your motor? Rotella T4 Conventional or do you do the Synthentic since the book says you can run that after the first change?

That is the oil fiter I use. And I do use Shell Rotella T6 full synthetic now. I get it in a 5 gallon pail from Autozone. Have a dedicated pail pump I got from Harbor Freight.

In the attached post I have a document listing my unit's filters, I bet on a 2016 they are identical.

I wonder if K&N makes an oil filter that will fit the generator...
The 1" nut on the end makes it super easy for the harder to reach filters.

That is exactly the same as the one on mine. You have to remove the strap bolt and undo the hose clamps, not too hard of a job.
