Seneca Water Pump Upgrade

Hey all!

Last summer, my water pump went out; I replaced it with an old 2gpm flowjet I had lying around and it has seen better days. The factory model was either 2.25 or 2.5 gpm; the slightly lower flow is giving us some issues with the girard tankless and seems to be restricting flow, even while on city connections.

I have been looking at a few 3gpm+ models on the usual sites but a lot have horrible reviews.

I was wondering if anyone has upgraded to a fantastic unit that will wash your dishes, take out the trash and give the DW a foot massage that they would recommend?

So funny you post this... We have replaced our water pump (or pump pressure switch) TOO many times. The pump switch IMHO is grossly undersized for it's application and fails after a good year of use. We are doomed to it failing again and we carry 2-3 spare switches in the Seneca now.

But now having 4-5 spare pumps / parts now - I thought of building a "redundant" pump system for our Seneca and moving them so they are easier to work on / replace parts. So the idea of two working pumps, in a side-by-side parallel install would double the water volume, but keep roughly the same pressure. A check valve would need to be in place for each pump, but this would also serve to keep the water system functioning when the next pump failure occurs - buying me some time to rinse the soap and finish my shower before going out and fixing another pump failure.

Thoughs?

I installed a Remco Aquajet 5+ gpm pump. It is a 5-chamber design and variable speed motor so less pulsation in the flow. Couple that with my 2-gallon accumulator tank, it functions very well.

Since the pump definately draws more amperage than the original I used the original pump wiring just as a "trigger" to energize a relay I installed. The relay feeds the new pump power from a dedicated 15-amp circuit I ran from one of the extra fuses in my power center.

Thanks, Robby! I know you have done a lot of plumbing upgrades in your unit, so this may not be something you can comment on. I have read where some have had over-pressure conditions that blew out their lines; I don't guess you had any issues like that?

I really like SloPoke's idea of redundancy! When you get that done, I want photos, plz!

Never had an issues regarding over-pressurization, I temporarily added a pressure gauge to see what my system was developing. My pump cuts off between 55-60 psi, then kicks back in about 50 psi. But I do have a 2 gallon accumulator so the water runs for a bit while the accumulator discharges, then the pump kicks on if system pressure drops to that (approximately) 50 psi.

I would say if that happened, it’s because of improperly assembled plumbing fittings from the factory.
