My question is:
1. Should the inverter be left on? I’m not very sure how the house batteries are maintained.
2. Should the main power switch be left on? If it’s turned off what is not powered when on site power?
Thanks,

1. The batteries are charged by your converter (a part of your power center) not by the inverter. Not necessary to leave inverter powered on.
2. In order to run the HVAC system the battery switch must be left on to supply 12-volt power to the thermostats. While the A/C units run on 120-volt AC power, they are controlled by 12-volt DC power.
Cummins Onan recommends monthy exercising of the generator under 50% load. I do mine by plugging in electric heaters to provide demand. If warm enough I can use the heat pump functionality of my A/C units instead. I will run it several hours like that.
I also use diesel Sta-Bil in my fuel tanks to help keep the fuel "fresh". Several seasons like that without problems.
