Service Question

I have a 2016 Jayco Seneca 37FS. I took it into the Freightliner Dealership for an oil change and warranty work. During the safety inspection, they found that the front differential pinion seal was leaking. The service manager said it is not covered under the warranty but did not give a reason. Should this be covered under warranty? I was told by the dealer that is not covered. Did anyone else have this problem? Thank you

Welcome to the forum.

It might be helpful to include the year of your Seneca and why the Freightliner dealer believed it is not covered under the Freightliner warranty.

Are you the original owner and what's the mileage?

I am the original owner, and the motorhome has 6,300 miles.

I would have JAYCO contact that dealer. You have 2 and 24,000

I believe this would be a Freightliner warranty issue. I can't imagine why this would not be covered. My Freightliner dealer has been great at warranty work. In fact. I recently had a check engine light come on. It was a sensor related to emissions. They said the repair would be over $500. He called Cummins and said since it was emissions related it was fully covered up to five years. I have had the Seneca for over 2 1/2 years so my Freightliner warranty had expired. Very happy, Sam

Front differential? I don’t have a front differential, only a rear differential.

This warranty stuff can get confusing. The 2/24k period mentioned in the "Jayco" manual refers to the "house" and not the chassis. Referring to my Freightliner ISB 6.7 Owners Manual, Pg W-27, the engine warranty is 5 years or 100,000 miles. Does not specify the drivetrain so I don't know what the "engine warranty" actually covers besides the engine. Also, the emissions warrant, Pg W-31, is also 5 years or 100,000 miles. The clock starts with the first owner taking possession and DOES transfer to subsequent owners. I would call Jayco/Freightliner. Right after I picked mine up I had to take it to Freightliner because the secondary air was leaking rapidly. They replaced an elbow in the rear air suspension. Covered under warranty. People getting their sway bar upgraded under Service Bulletin 32-47 is a warranty item. Does not make sense that a drivetrain issue (other than Allison) would not be covered. The Allison transmission is covered under a separate Allison warranty.

Good luck and please let us know how this pans out.

Did the service manager actually show you the leak?

The front differential pinion seal is the seal in the front of the "rear" differential. It's behind the big nut, right where the U-joint attaches.

I have had several Freightliner M2s for my company, and that "drivetrain" issue is certainly covered by warranty with your miles and year.

It's my understanding the Freightliner chassis warranty is two years from initial in-service date. Agree that a leaking diff pinion seal should be covered under the 5 year power train warranty (that also from initial in-service date).
