Snowbirding in our Seneca FK - a first for everything

So... we are on our first stop on our journey to Florida.... Our goal is to keep working while we escape the snow, ice and being stuck inside during the Winter season.

We find ourselves in Elephant Butte NM. Just north of Truth or Consequences NM and the sunny warmth of 88-degrees.

The park is 'Cedar Cove RV Park" and so far our stay has been excellent.

Looks nice. Out of curiosity, why are you coming all the way to Florida if you're already near the sun belt? What part of Florida are you heading to?

We are beginning our 3rd Winter snowbirding in our Seneca. It has worked great!

Enjoy the experience.

Living in Florida, we do the "sunbird" thing. We do 2-3 months in the Seneca to escape the brutal summer heat. And this past summer in the Seneca was great. We even got to miss a hurricane.

Let me know if you make it to south Florida. I would love to see your rigs and put faces to the names. Safe travels.

Mark

This week.... we find ourselves in Weatherford Texas. Just west of Dallas/Ft Worth at Stacy's Dads House. He has a large lot with a place on the side where we have the Seneca all tucked in.

We will be here for two weeks, having Thanksgiving festivities and getting together with some old friends that moved here years ago.

Some of you ask why / where in Florida... we have friends in Tampa, so will be there for Christmas, Orlando for New Years - then south to Pompano Beach for a couple of weeks of work at Associated Grocers of Florida facilities.

We would like meeting any of you that want to meet us along the way!!!

We are not even 30 minutes from Pompano Beach. Reach out when you are down. We would enjoy meeting up with you.

Safe travels, Mark

Just getting some time to update our adventure... Since we are hauling a little more stuff with us for this trip (canoe for fishing / exploring and a work wardrobe) we expected to be closer to our weight limits.. but not this close. Our GCWR is 33k!

(What??? JOF limits a .pdf file to 195kb... I guess you will have to imagine what my scale ticket looks like - because the forum won't allow me to upload it. )

*** Scale ticket should have been displayed here ****

Steer axle. 8,660
Drive axle. 16,540
Trailer axles 7,740
Total. 32,940

And I have to say the Freightliner ran amazing with the trailer the entire way.

Thanks.
My signature pic was taken on our first trip with the trailer, Jeep inside.
Of course I had to scale it, cause that's what I do!!!
Steer axle was 7540
Drive axle was 16,220
Trailer axles were 10,200
Gross weight 33,960
Add another 500 lbs or so for the girlfriend, her sister and right tank not full.
I'm not really concerned as the Freightliner axle ratings are 10,000 Steer & 18,000 Drive. Trailer axles are rated @ 5200 each. Since Freightliner made the chassis, as far as I'm concerned, I'm golden.

Thanksgiving Day - Weatherford Texas...

We hosted Thanksgiving Dinner at Stacy's Dads house with the Seneca... Cooked a Turkey Breast on the Camp-Chef with all the trimmings.. then sat down to watch her dad's favorite team get whooped (Cowboys) as we finished up.

We have been having an amazing trip so far... Since we left Texas, we spent a week in New Orleans - visited Bourbon street and the surroundings.. then to the Gulf Coast of Navarre Beach Florida... and now in Talahassee.

We have met some of the most amazing folks along the way!

Where did you stay in New Orleans? Can you get pretty close to the city? Sounds like a great trip so far. Have a merry Christmas in fla.

That park is about 5 minutes from me. I usually ride my bicycle through it once a week or so.

Until a few years ago it was the Seminole Health Club which was a nudist colony. KOA took over and are slowly fixing it up. You have to wear clothes now, and from the folks I have seen there, thank goodness. LOL

Let me know when you are in town.

Mark
