The word Seneca

I was wondering where the word Seneca comes from.

1) Seneca is a well known Roman Stoic philosopher. Seneca made a lasting contribution to Stoicism. "The Stoics taught that destructive emotions resulted from errors in judgment, and the active relationship between cosmic determinism and human freedom, and the belief that it is virtuous to maintain a will (called prohairesis) that is in accord with nature."

2) Seneca is city, within the foothillls of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The city is describe as reflecting the hospitality and beauty of that area.

Anyone else have any ideas?

Give them a call or email. Maybe they can say. If I had to guess, I'd shoot for your #2 answer. I have asked a few manf. where they got the names. Some names though, you gotta wonder what they were thinking. Jayco has some pretty decent ones.

The Seneca Indian's were a tribe located in what is called the Finger Lakes region of central NY state. One of the largest Finger Lakes is named "Seneca" and it is the deepest of the Finger Lakes. The Indians believe that the "Great Spirit" or "Creator" put his hand on the earth creating an imprint of his hand and thus the "Finger Lakes". I'm not sure if there still is a Seneca tribe or not. Also, I don't know if this is where Jayco got the name from.

The Seneca Nation of Indians is a vibrant tribe today. The historical Seneca occupied territories are throughout the Finger Lakes area in Central New York, and in the Genesee Valley in Western New York. The Senecas are also known as the "Keeper of the Western Door," for the Seneca are the westernmost nation of the Six Nations aka the Iroquois Confederacy

The Seneca Nation owns and operates 3 casino gaming, hospitality and entertainment venues in Niagara Falls, NY, Buffalo NY and Salamanca NY as well as other business ventures.
