Transfer switch replacement

I have a 2019 HJ and one of the first things I did was change out my transfer switch. It was so loud under the bed you could not sleep. From the advice from this forum I changed it out for the Progressive Dynamics DC coil model and it was excellent. It just went bad and after teching it with PD they confirmed it was bad and broke the news to me they did not make the DC coil models any more due to difficulty in getting parts. It took some research and I found a DC coil transfer switch made by parallax. It recieved the wiring a little different but went in pretty easy. It is dead quiet, works great and does not heat up like the PD transfer switch did. This is just an FYI if anyone has the same issues. I will update if it gives me any problems.

Thanks for this information, I am sure that I will be having to due this in the future and it is good to a have a variety of options. I don't hear anything from my unit but it probably just a manner of time.

Vicr recently posted this manufacture as well. not sure how is compares on pricing or performance

Hello,
I just had problems with my progressive dynamics system. I too was informed that they no longer sold or serviced my current system. I read your recent purchase and called Parallax. Very helpful and recommended the one you purchased. I was told it was different in wiring compared to the Progressive Dynamics system. Can you share what you had to do to get it wired?
Mine is being shipped to me so I have a few days to wait.Parallax does not sell direct to customers, but they were kind enough to recommend a business that does sell retail.
Thanks for the lead on what to go to for a replacement.

I was able to find some pictures from my installation. This is what I have. I wish I had a completed picture but my rv is in my shop in town and if you need let me know I will get you a picture tomorrow. The main difference is the DC coil PD model and the stock model recieve the Generator and shore inputs on one side and the output to the Rv on the other. The Parallax recieves all three on one side. My 2019 HJ had plenty of slack on the RV output to swing it around so they are all on the same side. One picture shows the original generator and shore inputs. The next shows the original RV output. The next shows a wiring diagram I penciled up and the other is a picture of the Paralax unit with a tape because I wanted to get the right size knock out clamps for the wiring. Hope this helps.

Hi,
I finally had a chance to look at my ATS503. As I was looking at the wiring I saw that there was a brown stripped wire and green stripped wire from the coach that there was no where to attach to on the ATS503. On the PD52DCSV and the PD 52C there was a designated spot. Did you run into this problem? I have a 2016 and I see yours is a 2019. I am not sure if something changed in that time.
Thanks

I looked back at my pictures and did not see any striped wires. I attached pictures of my original transfer switch and the DC coil switch. They were pretty close to the same. Hope this helps

Thanks for the quick response. I was able to determine it is for the generator. Looks like I needed to order a transfer switch with a connection for my generator.
Thank you

Transfer switch cganged.

Just replaced my transfer switch in my 2016 37 TS. I found it was easy to just replace it with another PD52C. It was easy as it was the same as my previous switch. It is very quiet compared to the original PD52C, when I first bought the RV. Not sure if they made changes to the PD52C, but it is definitely quieter.
