Water in 7-way plug Seneca

Does anyone else have a problem with water getting into the 7-way plug off the back of your motorhome? When it rains, mine collects water and then will short out the connections and corrode the contacts.

There is no gasket on the male or female end. The plug seals when the cover is closed. I have been removing the plug from the receptacle once I arrive at site. There is still water getting in while traveling in wet conditions.

I have looked for a waterproof connection, but have not been able to find one.

Be sure it doesn't get in from the back - an old bicycle tire tube and black-tape or tie-rips can make that waterproof.

Yes this is a big problem as the plug is angled up letting the water right in. I was always going to bend the mounting plate down so it was straight up and down but ended up replacing my hitch and put in a new plug as the old one was rusted and corroded. Wasn’t to impressed with Jaycos wiring job either....

If you don't have a cap Amazon sells one, and probably every RV dealer of any size. I also saw spring loaded flaps that mounts to permanently install.

This happens when you have your 7 pin plug plugged into the socket. It is mounted so the water comes in around the plug and can run down and accumulate around the contacts.

I have replaced our trailer connector twice now... I just spray the heck out of it with WD-40 for corrosion issues... and carry a spare for the next time I tear it off.

I have been contemplating ditching the 7-way and replacing with a low-profile Flat-4 for our trailer. At the moment, the bracket is bent so you could not plug a 7-way into the socket as it is facing up 45-degrees upwards from the bottom of the Seneca. We don't have a brake-control since our trailer is 100% hydraulic brakes - so what good is a 7-way anyways?

Dielectric grease. The flaps should have a economy size tub.

Over 7,000 miles since new (one year) more days raining than not. Haven't had an issue but after reading the thread I'll take a closer look.

Ours started getting really badly rusted at about 12k miles with a LOT of pulling in the rain being we are on the Oregon coast. I just don’t understand why they put it up at a 45 degree angle
