Winter Travel

Traveling from PA to Florida. Temperature supposed to be 12 degrees in morning when we leave. Have a 2020 Jayco Seneca which we keep in a heated garage. We do not winterize it. How do I keep it from freezing up through an 8 hour cold weather drive.

If you run the house furnace you should be fine. It blows heat down there. I put an outside thermometer probe down below the water station and then I can monitor the temp while going down the road. Cheap at walmart.

If you want to wear a belt and suspenders, drain your water lines and not use your water until you reach warmer temps.

I drove from Ohio to Myrtle Beach in January in similar temps. 9 hour drive, no problems with freezing along the way. Lines were not winterized but tanks were empty.

I would suggest NOT loading the tank with water before you leave, and drain the water heater tank and open and empty the low point drains before you leave. Keep the house furnace on at least to 60 degrees while driving.

I kept jugs of fresh water in the shower to pour in the toilet to flush when used and for hand washing.

Thanks, that’s what we were thinking of doing. Have you actually done this in weather that cold?

It was around 22 degrees during our trip. I think got down to 18 or 19 degrees when we stopped for a few hours to nap at night.
