12V DC went out, though shoreline and truck sources are still fine

Hi neighbors,

any ideas or similar experiences on this problem?

As I finished using the tounge jack to hook up to begin our trip home, the 12V DC for my entire Hummingbird went out... all lights, tounge jack, and other DC appliances, though my multimeter says the 12V battery is in fine shape.

Everything still works when a) the shoreline is plugged in, or b) when the ignition switch in my truck is in the ON position. And all fuses and circuit breakers in in the power converter box near the door are fine, plus the power converter still seems healthy, as its fan runs when on shoreline.

But, poof, no DC at all for dry camping.

Any ideas, for example: other fuses in places I don't know where to look?

Thanks, all,

Bill M.

CONGRATULATIONS on the JAYCO!!!

...and WELCOME TO JOF!!! The members here are GREAT!!! There is a lot of GREAT information to be found here. I am sure that you will have information and pictures to share with us... so please do!!

Your main 30 amp fuse by the battery box was blown because you kept the electric on the tongue jack to long. When it tops out or bottoms out it will draw a lot of amps because it can go no farther and it blows the main fuse. It may not be a fuse on the newer models, it may be a 30 amp breaker that needs to be reset. See what you have.

Hi Bill M and welcome to the forum.

What Mustang65 said. It is a common occurrence . When you buy fuse, buy more than 1.

X4. It happened to me too, twice, so I went out and bought a pack of 30 AMP fuses just in case. Behind the battery box there is an electrical junction box near the bottom of the camper. Next to it is a spade fuse holder with a cap on it.

I put a fuse/breaker in with a reset button in place of the standard fuse. Going up to far with the tongue jack did it the first time. Dunno why the other times til I replaced it with the one with a reset button. Never an issue now. $11 or $12 on amazon.

Yup, that was it...

Thanks, Mustang65!... that was it. Glad something major wasn't fried.

As a new owner, I guess the process is gradually grow a mental geography map of the systems (the manual just says, "if it isn't the power converter it's a [mystery] inline fuse," with no drawing showing where that might be).

And now I have a set of spare fuses, as well!
