We finally ran our 15000 A/C with our Champion 3100. No problemo. Had lights on too.

The answer was as the nits get older due to compressor wear it requires more amps to start. Which is why my genset will run it, but not start it.
OK Don, You are pulling our leg right? When an officer talks, I listen. LOL

Nort, telling the truth. While I sure don't know much about AC units I do know that at my age I am using two hard start devices to get me going, 2 14 oz cups Italian roast, Turkish grind, pour over coffe every morning to get my AC running...LOL

We have 3000 W generator (not brand name) which cannot run our 15k AC unit. I can't bring myself to shell out over $1k for a generator to use once or twice a year.

I was looking at getting just one generator. In our camping circle, I have exposure to On Board Onan, Gernerac portables, Champion, Honda and Yamaha.

Spent 4 days on Generation last week with these guys.

All work well. However cost of ownership is a factor I considered as well a weight and ability add external extended run time fuel tank.

I wanted to run all I want in my 30amp TT. I wanted to be able to quickly refuel during TV fuel stops.

The Champion 3100 (a friends) was modified for extended tank and did well...more noise than the others and worse fuel economy....but worked well.

For me the Honda EU2000i paired together with a companion was the best choice. On a recent 4 day trip we were on generator for 4 days...not a/c was needed...I got the best economy of all rigs there.

With both generators I can power my 15k A/C and Microwave at the same time with not issues.

I use a Progressive Industries on board EMS and have no issues.

I can refill the extended runtime tank while refueling the two vehicle without having to lift it from the truck bed.

I run 2 CO detectors anytime I am on generator.

I have 72 hours on my Honda on less than 5 gallons of fuel. With 15K A/C and Water heater on electric I have ran 14 hours on 5-6 gallons.

If one fails..I sill have electric. I use them to power house..run chain saws, impact gun for tire changes on road..tailgating, etc. with portability and great fuel economy.

I use BERG gas caps and love the no spill connectors.

Sure I have more parts and complexity than just one generator...but I traded that for versatility.
