Picked up our new trailer yesterday ( 16' jay flight 27BHS ) and here is the story of the pick-up and drive home.
We bought it from a dealer about 75 miles away. We were trading our 14 x18D in so I pulled that one out there, it was crazy windy (20mph with gust of 30 )with some snow and rain but we did okay - I got 9.2mpg.
Walk-through was great, we hooked-up and left for the return trip. I was a little nervous from the wind that I experienced on the way out. It was also my first time towing something 31.5' long and 6300lbs. Trip home was great!! It towed soooo much better then our previous trailer. A few gusts pushed us around a bit, but we handled it. Got it home safe and sound and we camped in the driveway
. Here is the surprising part, we got 11.8mpg on the way home! I was expecting it to be worse not better. Maybe it was a tail-wind.
Overall the truck did awesome, and we are love, love, loving our new baby - so much different than our hybrid. There is so much storage! It was 33 here last night and the heater worked great, kicked on a few times - trailer does an awesome job at holding the heat.
Looking forward to dragging it all over!
