Have you tried running it on propane?

I run on propane to get cold first and never shut it off until the end of season. Depending on where you are located and the ambient air temp, it may not get very cold to start with on electric.

My new Jay Flight is my third travel trailer and I've always done this before each trip out. I turn it on to run on electric. I keep three plastic jugs filled with water (leaving some room for expansion) in my basement freezer. I put the ice jugs in the fridge the night before I put food in to help fridge cool. Fridge is always nice and cold next morning, and fridge doesn't have to work nearly as hard to get temp down no matter how hot it may be.

Chris,

How long had the fridge been rubbing when you posted? It does take a while to get cold, and depending on how hot it is out, can take longer....

Maybe next time try using Mike's awesome suggestion to speed things up if it's only been running a short time.

But there is the possibility you have a defective fridge. Try running it on propane to see if that works.

Good luck!!!

question

Does your fridge stay on when you are traveling? Just curious.

If your fridge was off for a period of time and has reached outside temperatures, it can take 8 hours or more to reach proper temperature on electric. When we are going to go camping, we try to get there the day before and turn the fridge on propane so that we can load cold food items in it when we arrive to drive it away from storage.

There's a whole thread on this question...

It's a rather contentious issue.

It can take a whole lot more than 8 hours to reach proper temperature. The manufacturers recommend 24.

And the electric heating elements do not impart near as much energy (for cooling) as the propane flame.

And very warm days (over 90F) interfere with a refrigerator's ability to cool down the box.
