1997 jay series 1208

I just purchased this used camper. Prior I have always had a coleman TT. Anyway it does need minor canvas work, which is what I do, so no biggie. My question is this, there is a A unit on the top. I am pretty sure this was a add on, I can see that the previous owner simply drilled a hole and installed it with no extra support. How can I support this added weight on the roof? Or should I remove and patch the hole?

Do you mean A/C unit on top? If so, is the roof sagging where the unit is mounted? Stretch a length of string across the roof using a helper and see if there is a gap by the A/C. I believe the factory just cuts a hole in the roof and installs the unit as well.

My old pup carried 5 bikes plus a metal bike rack on the roof with no issues.

I know there is a weight limit on the roof. I think mine is 300 lbs but would have to check the manual. The A/C unit is about 100lbs IIRC. I have no idea what the weight limit would be on a 97 popup. My A/C was added by the dealer in a already existing roof vent. This might get a better response if it were in the popup section.

We had a '93 1208. Jayco built in the support and wiring into the roof to accommodate an A/C. A/C was an option on these.
