20 amp camping
we are camping July 4th weekend and could only get 20 amp service. Any tricks to make this work better for us. I guess we can run AC but not much else at the same time....

Your a/c will run fine. You just wont be able to use the microwave with out turning off the a/c. No hair dyers or electric cook tops. Run your hot water heater on gas and no big awning lights and you should be able to manage. Have fun.

Start the fan first, once up to speed, turn to A/C to start compressor. This will reduce the sudden spike for power.

As mentioned, you can't run much but you can use gas for hot water and the refrigerator and make it less likely to pop the breaker.

You also won't be able to run your welder.

We did this many times in years past both at Rallies (at fairgrounds) and in Canada (many parks were only 20) and all the above comments are spot on. With the air, put it on fan when running the coffee pot/micro/toaster and then back on cool when finished, you can at least keep the air circulating. Also check you 30/20 adapter periodically to be sure it's not overheating. It will probably feel warm, but I have seen some start to melt.

We used a 20A circuit at home while prepping when we owned the X23B. We could run the A/C, fridge, all the lights (I upgraded to all LED's) and stereo with no problems. We also had the TV on a time or two. I doubt we ever used the micro in the driveway. We could NOT run the A/C if I used a 15A circuit.
You might have a problem if the girls fire up their hairdryers. And like mcfarm says, I wouldn't plan on any welding.
Grumpy mentions checking the 30A to 20A adapter. There have been problems with the "just a plug" type of adapter (30A one side and 20A on the other). Most folks (me included) use the "dog bone" type of adapter (about a 12" extension cord with 30A on one end and 20A on the other.

I've seen a few of those "fry" as well since the 20 amp receptacle is loose or worn out and that end starts to melt.

I used to use a 15 amp GFI for the trailer in the driveway but we kept having to reset it. It seemed that the lights, stereo, refrigerator and vacuum cleaner was just a little more than it could handle. We changed it out for a 20 amp GFI and it has never popped the circuit since.
