2014 22 FB hot water heater???

hello all, well I dewinterized the camper this weekend, and when I put the white plastic plug in the bottom of the back on the WH, and flushed all the lines, and made sure all the lines were clear, I wnt and noticed the plug was dripping from the back, I cant get a wrench into it, and im afrain to over tighten for it only being a nylon/plastic plug?? is there a certain tool to get in there and tighten this? anyone else have this problem??

I use a universal joint on the back of a socket to make it fit.. you can run it fight to the head but dont try to tighten it once there,,,

I used a socket with a 12" extension and ratchet to tighten it up.

Ran into this last week when I was trying to put in the plug. 15/16" socket with a long extension like the man above said. Be careful on threading it by hand to start, so you don't screw up the threads. Good luck

As said 15/16 socket with 12" extension is what I use.

Additionally the nylon plugs are not meant to cycle several times, I keep a couple spares and suggest you should too.

Most RV dealers stock a petcock valve that replaces the nylon plug. It makes draining the heater quick and easy.

If you do this look a the material the petcock is mfg from. Do not put a brass valve in an aluminum atwood water heater. The dis-similar metals will react and fuse never to be seperated again.

Buy some extra plugs. I bought a pack of three from Amazon. I usually replace it every year. The threads on the plug are designed to engage so that when fully tightened down it should not leak without any pipe dope.
