2016 32 bhds sewer smell
Hello all. I'm new to the camper game. I think I followed the steps when setting up for the first go around. After a couple of days we started smelling sewer gas when we flushed the toilet. I'm hooked into a sewer drain and I have the valve opened. Any thoughts?

When you have the dump valve open you're letting sewer gasses travel up your sewer hose, through your holding tank and into your bathroom. And if you have your exhaust fan on in the bath you're pulling the gasses up into the coach. I recommend you close the dump valve and only open it when your black tank is full...you get a more complete dumping of the tank that way. Also, consider using this to treat your tank, it's worked perfectly for us: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Good luck and enjoy your trailer, it's a really nice one!

P.s. You probably have your grey water valves open too. That's okay in non freezing conditions, but remember to close those valves to collect some water before your black tank flush. Then you'll dump the grey water immediately following your black water dump to give that sewer hose a good cleaning. And remember...sewer gasses can travel up into a coach through your grey water system as well, so if closing the black tank valve doesn't solve the problem, you may need to keep the grey valves closed between dumps as well. One other thing I neglected to mention - make sure to close the toilet seat whenever you have your bathroom exhaust fan on. Putting stoppers in all your sink drains when not in use can help block odors as well.

Hello to you, hbargeron, and welcome to the forum.
In addition to the good info from Mikey, by leaving your black tank valve open, you will not flush out the solids from the black tank. That will result in a tower of poo stuck to the bottom of the tank. When it dries, that tower is difficult to remove.
