i just wanted to come out here and give an update. After talking with the Dealer, we learned that the Jayflight line will be moving to all 80" queen beds in the next year or 2 - it sounds like the 28 BHBE will be one of them and MIGHT be moved in 2017 model year. That said, considering there wasn't one available on the dealer's lot (the dealer we want to go with ) and knowing we will probably want to order what we want, BUT, not wanting to sacrifice the next 2-3 months without camping, we decided to get an interim camper, to carry us over for a year or 2 (up to 5). It's used, and we can get camping next week with it. That gives us a couple years to build our wish list, see how the family (extended) feels about camping with us, and decide if we want to down size or stay with the 28BHBE. I'm a planner - this is just another step in the process. I don't imagine we'll keep the current camper long term, I have a feeling our needs will change in the next 5, and we will probably change what we want (this is a 35Foot Dutchmen bunk house - it's HUGE). It will work for now.

I wanted to thank everyone for their input and replies - I'll lurk here now and again, and we will eventually get our Jayco, but the timing didn't work out for us this year unfortunately. we had already lost most of the summer months trying to figure out what we wanted - we didn't want to lose the rest of the camping season waiting for the dream trailer we want.

Thanks again!!!

I have a 2015 Jayco Jayflight 28bhbe and I pulled it with a 2009 f150 this summer, I not sure why the different tow weights. Mine was rated for a max of 9200lbs, I think it has something to do with motor and gears. The longest trip was about 350 miles round trip. The 8mpg was the worst part about the trip, it pulled the hills with no problem and rolled 65-75mph. I have upgraded to a f250 deisel to hopefully get better gas mileage. Our sales guy said you would have to put rocks in every drawer and cabinet to reach the max 9250lbs. Not sure if this helps but figured I'd throw in my two cents.

I think it was because of it being a super crew - it took away from the payload and the tow capacity i am sure. it isn't the tow limit that was wthe worry, but the payload. we just didn't have enough wiggle room no matter what.

Congrats on the new to you Dutchmen!!!

When's the maiden voyage? If time before hand, don't hesitate to driveway camp a night or two to try to figure out what you may be missing in the camper gear wise.

Maybe you have already wondered this, but.... After having that Dutchmen you may not feel the 28 BHBE will be as "open" or enough room for you guys! Lol The Dutchmen is 35' overall, bumper to tongue?

I possibly see the 32 BHDS in your future if you do buy a new Jayco!!! Or a comparable 5ver!!!

Maybe I missed it, but which hitch system did you go with?

Have fun tonight!!!

LOL!! well, our goal is - tentatively - in the next 5 years to Downsize. these are the prime years - the kids that will be coming range from 6 to 11 in ages - 5 years from now many of them will be teenagers and might not be so interested in coming with the aunt and uncle or maybe they will - who knows? the 28 BHBE is still on my radar for then - though in 5 years I am sure a lot will be changing. we will see! as for the hitch, I can't remember what it is called - hubs knows I think. and the length if I recall correctly is 34 feet 11 inches. LOL
