F250 for the 28 bhbe would be a PERFECT match

the most payload from tong weight would be around 1300 lbs maxed out at the most , so you still have plent for bike's , wood and what ever else you want to load in the back of the truck

If you can swing a 250, go for it. After towing my 28BHBE for 10 hours with our 1/2 ton RAM, I couldn't be happier. I ended up getting 10mpg, which isn't bad considering the winds and large hills across Northern Michigan. Semi trucks were getting pushed around as well, no joke. Not sure how the trucks compare and I honestly don't want to get into it. A 1/2 ton truck in our instance is great. Bikes this day and age are roughly 25lbs each. Not sure how many people carry, but I have a family of 5. Wood can be purchased where every you camp, I sometimes we carry a bin or 2 along with 5+ gallons of fresh water. I wish that I could do a direct comparison with a 1/2 ton & 3/4 ton carrying the same load under the same conditions. Go to a busy campground and look around at what is being towed behind 1/2 ton trucks! If you intend to pull across many states, by all means get a larger truck. However, if you plan to stay closer, a 1/2 ton may work for you. Good luck on your decision. FYI- I was concerned about our trip for a few weeks prior to leaving and considered buying a 3/4 ton truck. My fears are over and I'm glad I waited to make the decision!

Isn't a 250 a 3/4 ton and the 350 a 1 ton? Maybe I am confused

You are correct. Below is a breakdown of sizes. There also is a larger truck called a 450/4500 which is a ton and 1/2!

A 150/1500 is a 1/2 ton
250/2500 is a 3/4
350/3500 is a 1 ton truck.

Ok .. Our choice is between the 250 and 350.. We are trading in the 150. Hubs is meeting me at the dealership in a bit. The sales guy brought in the 250 without me knowing so we could compare side by side. We will be leaving with one of them. Lol. Don't know which!

They actually cost the same but the 250 is a 2015 And only 22,000 miles. The 350 is a 2011 And 58,000 miles. But the 350 is a lariat and has a lot of bells and whistles, the 250 is just an xlt. I know I would lean toward the 250.. But hubs likes the 350 And it is his truck. We will see.

The 250 payload is only 2985 or close. Still enough I think but might be nice to have the 3740 or whatever the 350 is

I dunno, now that you list the mileage of the 350, that doesn't sound like a bad deal either. Sounds like it might have been gently used (or it could have only been used hard as a tow-beast for those miles ... ?) 58K in 6 yrs is only about 9700 miles a year. In comparison to most, I don't put a lot of miles on my truck, but I'm still right at 12K a year. I take really good care of my vehicles though. It's hard to know if all the scheduled maintenance was kept up with. Was it just one owner since 2011?

The 350 was first bought in march of 2011 - so it's 4.5 years old, and has 58,000 miles - which averages to between 12,000 and 13,000 miles per year. No way to tell if the truck was routinely maintained. we can see the carfax, and it shows a few oil changes early that may have been done at the dealer or somewhere, but not after that. I don't know if carfax is reliable for maintenance history though. That said, after further review and comparing of both trucks, AND realizing we can (and did) get the full bumper to bumper warranty from Ford for 5 years/60,000 miles(from today), with the beefier towing capacity, and the 8foot bed.. we opted for the older 350.

so without further delay, here is a pic of our new TV - Affectionately named "THE HULK"... :-)

Congrats on your new truck. You will love the 8ft bed when loading up gear. The longer wheelbase also makes for a more stable tow vehicle.

I'm a GMC guy but that's a nice looking truck. Congrats. I would have went with the f350 over the f250 as well. Now you won't have to ask can my truck tow this trailer. When people can't put it in drive, hit the tow button and tow, it means they don't have enough motor or gearing. I put mine in drive, hit the tow button and let her roll. You will too.

That is a HUGE truck! Beautiful green too! I assume its the 6.2 gas engine?

I think you will be very pleased with the truck, especially when pulling that (suddenly) little trailer you want to get. You won't have to worry about packing. You won't have to worry about sudden stops. You won't have to worry about passing vehicles pushing you around. Good decision.

Very good job educating yourself before diving into camping. Let me tell you, buying an RV and going out with the family is the greatest. My 2.5 year old daughter LOVES camping. She cries at the end of every trip and spends the next few weeks asking if we can go camping again. My wife didn't travel much growing up. We have been up and down the east coast since getting a trailer. My daughter has already seen more of the country in 2.5 years than my wife did in 26 years.

I hope that you and your family get to share the same experiences that my family is enjoying!

Congrats! Not posted much in your thread but was following along to see how things turned out... excellent choice and that 350 is a beast! Plus it has all the comforts needed to start the vacation when you pull out of the driveway!

Tough to turn down a new TV but when you can get that bumper to bumper on the 2011 to match the new one...really wasn't a decision!

Congrats again and now you will never worry about packing up to go camping! You will just go camping and enjoy it!
