2017 Jayco Jayflight 175RD, 3300i Generac

Just bought a used 2017 Jayco Jayflight 175RD. I bought a 3300i Generac portable generator to go with it, I have a few questions. Since this is a used unit what are the odds of it already having a soft start for the AC already installed? I'm going to jump up there and take a look, this is all new to me. Do you use a surge protector on your portable generators? The AC is a 13,500 BTU I believe. Should I just hook it up and see how it runs?

I would bet that the odds are against you that there is already a soft start installed. However, I would also bet that the 3300i can start and run the A/C anyway.

You don't need a surge protector on the generator, in fact if you have an ems surge protector, it may not like the generator anyway due to the floating neutral.

What you do need though is an electrical adapter to mate to the generators twistlock power connection to your rv's 30 amp cord. ~CA

Good information, thanks, so the Generac has a twist lock, and my camper has a standard push in? I'll look that up and see if I can find a link to order such an adapter.........I guess wallmart does not carry

I doubt wallmart would have one. Amazon does though. I would probably go with the first one here.

or you could get one with a cord, this one is on sale.

Your 3300I should start and run your AC with no problems unless you also try to run your microwave and possibly your converter is trying to recharge a low battery.
With any generator it is a good idea to start it with no load and let it run for a minute or two to warm up. Then add one load at a time. Such as plug in RV to get the converter working on charging the battery if needed and then adding micro or AC. If you add to much load at once it will bog down and quit. Blow a fuse. Or run at low voltage depending on type and load.

Regards 3300i Generacs. Somebody advised I use a grounding plug in one of the 110v sockets on the generator. He couldn’t fully explain why I needed one. Can somebody explain this one?
