2018 Eagle HT 324BHTS w/ one air conditioner ??

I have a 2018 Eagle HT 324BHTS with just one 15,000 btu air conditioner, however, I do have the 2nd a/c prep option. In this recent hot weather (plus 90 degree days), the single a/c is just not cutting it. (This is only my second time using the rv). Today it could barely maintain 84 degrees with an outside temp of 94. Is this normal? I have an appointment with my dealer next week to have a second ducted 13,500 btu a/c unit installed at a cost of $975. My question: Am I wasting my money? Will this 2nd unit correct the problem? Should the single unit I already have be able to cool the rv on its own? Is the price of $975 about average? Thanks in advance for some advice.

Typical. Also price of 2nd unit is about right, but why not go with another 15,000 shouldn't be much more money.

I have the same trailer with 2 15K's and it impressed me lately here in TX. Out last trip it was 100 deg heat index and I was able to maintain 75 in the RV. Shades down, no cooking inside, but it held it pretty darn good.

I want to add slide toppers and I think those would help a ton also.

Totally agree with the above post, if you are doing it, go with 15K for sure.

The perk to the 2nd unit is it will freeze you out of the main bedroom even if the rest of the RV is not as cool.

Now...finding the balance setting of the 2 thermostats for at night has been a trick...but I found if I barely set the main room tstat below the bedoorm one, it works great.

Thanks for the info. I guess I am going to have to do it, as 84 degree interior temps are just too uncomfortable. The dealer wants an additional $150.00 to upgrade the second a/c from 13,500 to 15,000 btu. Just a bit pissed off that the one unit cannot maintain comfortable temps, they should tell you that upfront, or not even offer it in a single a/c configuration. Could have added the second a/c with original order for only $625 additional. Oh well, you live and learn.....

I have a 314 BHDS and have the same issue,1 15k ac unit does great until temp gets over 90 deg.ive added slide toppers, put insulated panels over windows on the doors and it helped a bit but still hot.My bedroom has 2nd ac prep and I think I'm gonna have it installed, just sucks it only cools that room, our bunkroom is usually the hottest,be great if I could put it in there

There have been a few posts here and there about improper isolation of hot air return vs. cold air supply ducting as well as improper location of the temperature sensing bulb which in turn can cause a unit to short cycle and in turn, spend more time just blowing air vs. blowing cold air.

There's also been quite a few posts about using aluminum tape to seal the gap between ducting and ceiling - so basically making sure no air is escaping into the "attic" - and after doing this, loosing the black nipple (ring) from the back of the duct outlets.

I'd be looking at the above items to see if there are any improvements you can do prior to having to spend more money.

I did check for gaps that may require attention in the ceiling ducts, however, found nothing requiring tape to seal any gaps. As for the second a/c only cooling the bedroom, I opted for my dealer to install a ducted unit (additional cost of course) that they indicate should help cool the entire rv rather than just the bedroom. I am going to pass along to my dealer the other posted info of common problems and have them check on it as well.

That's must be a lot of work to add a ducted unit.they would have to pull the ceiling down to do that and dodge the duct work and other junk installed up there.hopefully the price they give covers all that

The dealer gave me a written quote, parts and labor, of $899.00 non ducted or $975.00 ducted, installed. Did not act like it was all that much additional work to install the ducted model? This was for the 13,500 btu model (+ $150 for 15k model). And I already have the 50 amp 2nd a/c prep option. Maybe the 2nd a/c option makes it an easy install for the ducted model? I know that there is no roof vent in the bedroom, even with the 2nd a/c option, which I thought was odd. They will have to cut a hole through my roof to do the install, is this normal with having the factory 2nd a/c option??

With second AC prep, the power wire, the thermostat wire, and the ducts are there. To install a second unit, you unseal the ducts, install the unit and plenum, wire it up and you are in business. Ducted up front is the way to go. Spend the extra $150 for the 15k.

Should there have been a roof vent there as well with the 2nd a/c prep option? Is it normal to have to cut through the roof??

My trailer is wired and set up for a second AC.so when the word ducted is being used how is it ducted.I already have ducts ran all over from my factory installed 15k ac unit in each room.I can't see 2 units using same duct work they would fight each other.I really want to add the second unit and was curious as to how it works

There is a common set of ducts and both units blow through them. Yes, if one unit is on and the other is off, it can blow back through the intake on the off unit, but, it’s easier for the air to go through the open returns. It’s not a problem. You can install the front unit without opening up the ducts, but I’m not sure why you would go that route.

My Air Command up front cools better than the Mach 15 so I sometimes just run the front unit and send all the air back. If the front room is really hot, I can open up the down dump on the Air Command and run the Mach to blow through the ducts. I can run both through the ducts at the same time and that seems to work fine.

My 29.5BHDS has a roof vent in the front room. Pull down the trim ring to see the wiring and ducts. I didn’t know they made Eagles without a vent or ac up front.

Good to know thanks,my biggest issue is bunk room is usually hotter then rest of trailer,I feel.like the outdoor kitchen and not alot of insulation due to that keep it warm.ive tinted the already tinted windows to keep sun glare down and put a fan in living room to help move air. But still stays warm.ill have to try and see if I do in fact have ducts there.its only a little white plate but maybe I can take it off and look into there

RV was dropped at the dealer today to have the second a/c installed (ducted). Opted to go ducted, which was recommended by the dealer as well. I am scheduled to pick it up next Wednesday, will post the results. Fingers crossed !!

Picked up the RV today from the dealer. Second a/c was installed (ducted), 13,500 btu. Dealer did a very clean install cutting through the roof. It was already framed out in the roof, with all necessary wiring, with the 2nd a/c prep option that I originally ordered on the trailer. It was 94 degrees here today, and although I can only run one a/c unit on my house electric, the new second unit ran strong with excellent airflow from the ducts. It was able to drop the interior temp from 98 to 79 in about 2 hours. I am confident when I go on my next trip in July and am able to run both a/c units, that the interior will be much cooler. Will post results in about 2 weeks.
