2018 Jayco Eagle Purchase Price

Good Morning,
I live in Upstate NY. Looking to purchase a 2018 Jayco 5th wheel. The biggest Jayco dealer here is Albany RV.

Bottom line one unit on the lot from a dealer in Vermont was $74K. They would sell it to be for $49,999 and give me $15k for mine.

Albany RV, on one on their lot for $66,625 they would sell me for $51,999 and give me $16k for mine. Then off of one I built online for $68,825 they would sell me for $53,300.

Go on some of these direct RV sites, sell me the one I built ($68,825) for $44,985.

Bottom line I am seeing prices all over the board. Not sure how hard I can push the local guys. Just wondering what others thoughts/experiences are when looking to buy.

My recent purchase on a MSRP of $26,154 probably is not a fair figure to use. I bought a 2016 Jayco x254 for $16,200. It was a brand new model that was still sitting on their lot after 2 years. They also threw in a weight distribution hitch and several other little goodies to get me rolling down the road for that price. It amounted to about 40% off the MSRP. I live in Michigan and bought from a MI dealership about two hours from the house.

They will usually come off 35% or a little better from all I've seen.

We looked at the Eagle but without a hardwood or 3/4" plywood floor I looked at the North Point 381. CampingWorld of Davenport Iowa had it for $55k and it came with a larger bath, and you know the DW just couldn't walk away....

Generally speaking 30% off "manufacturer's" suggested retail price on a Jayco is a good deal. 35% an excellent deal. Anything in the 40% range, you're getting a great deal, and getting close to, at, or under dealer cost. Just a general guideline, there are always exceptions.

To get the most accurate picture you'll need to shop nationwide. Every make and model travel trailer has areas where they're popular, low in inventory, and not heavily discounted. The trick is to find the area where the make and model trailer you're looking for is not popular or has excessive inventory, resulting in much heavier discounts.

Dealers typically pay $1.50 - $1.75 a mile in freight charges. If you live on either coast, especially the west coast, and don't mind traveling closer to IN to get a good deal, consider the freight savings---sometimes as high as $3000++. For some the freight savings, plus a great deal on the trailer itself, is more than a fair trade for their time and costs to drive the long distance.

Ask to see the manufacturer's "build" sheet to verify MSRP. Don't be scammed with a "dealer" generated Suggested Retail Price.

Good luck!

Getting 40% off MSRP for a two-year-old camper is as good as one is likely to get. But not so hot if a new one is available for 30/35% off.

Albany RV is a dealer for RV Direct. Not sure if RV Direct is the online dealer you mentioned getting a price from. My understanding is that you can get a better deal buying and handling the deal through RV Direct and picking up the trailer at Albany RV than you can by just going in to Albany RV. Not sure why. I custom ordered my current camper through RV Direct as they were cheaper by many thousands than any other dealer I contacted. I picked up my camper at Albany RV. They were fantastic. My online sales lady was Jessica. She’s out of the Albany RV dealer as well. I would definitely buy from them again.

We were able to obtain 32% off the MSRP factory sticker price (which included shipping) at the Hershey RV Show in September on a 2018 Eagle HT, however it took some negotiating! Dealer was a pleasure to work with, and did not attempt to add any other hidden costs at delivery. We were pleased.
