2020 Jayco Jayflight No Rock Guard

Anyone have ideas for adding a diy rock guard. Didn't realize the glass was just tempered when I bought mine with no rock guard. See pics of my broken window.

How did that happen? I've seen the newer trailers with a window in the front, not sure that is a good idea. My 1996 Fleetwood Wilderness had a window in the front, but it was covered by metal cover that raised up and acted as a sun shade when parked.

Hoped you can get it repaired without a hassle from the dealer.

On my 4th time out with this new trailer, I was about an hour from home on the interstate and I look in my rearview and the window is shattered. I assume it was a rock.

Jayco will replace with the same tempered glass window, I've been trying to get them to install the window with rock gaurd that was previously used, but they are being extremely unhelpful. They changed the design at some point in their 2020 production line. Mind boggling they would switch out for an unprotected piece of tempered glass.

Yikes. Our older 195 has the window with a guard. I would never go for bare window. Its kinda of a useless window as it does not open but to have a rock opened for you means wetness inside.

Holy smokes Gregekoehler, sorry to hear. We just took delivery, didn't even consider this as a potential issue.

I'd recommend figuring out a DIY rock guard, prior to any long hauls with this. I took 4 trips traveled about 2k miles and this happened. Jayco is out till January to fulfill the warranty replacement. I found a glass repair to do it for about $400. So beware this could ruin your trip.

I've attached my solution. Did this for $125 not too difficult I'd say 1 hour work.

Below is how I built mine. Currently the latch opens completely and rests against top of camper. I have gas struts I might attach later to allow an awning style. In order to determine stud locations I contacted Jayco service gave them my VIN and they sent the building plans blueprint.

Materials and links below.

1/4 Sheet ABS at lowes/home depot

Two rear hatch hinges from an armada (on Amazon for $27) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07YXN8ZKH...8?_encoding=UT F8&psc=1

Trim lock seal with bulb
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NL42ISE...p_mob_ap_share

for bottom strap used a t hinge strap

Rock Guard Replacement Window for Jayco 195RB

Thought I would post this in case it can help someone.

Same thing happened to us. 2021 Jayco Jay Flight 195RB. We were all set to put our trailer away for the season when ours broken on the trip back from the dealer.
We have a replacement window ordered through our dealer and it’s coming from Jayco. The original Jayco window is not available. However, Jayco sells a replacement with a rock guard! Use order #0336097. A clamp ring will also be required as the original will not fit. It’s #0223192. I called Jayco myself to confirm the fit.

These are Jayco’s parts numbers that they gave to me when I called their office in Middlebury, IN (1-800-283-8267)
I still had to go through my Jayco dealer to have them ordered. Hope this helps.

Won’t help your solution, but didn’t older campers always have a hard awning type cover on the front facing windows?

Please post pictures when you get the new window, still deciding on replacing or building a diy rock guard. Thanks.

I believe so.
An uncovered, front facing RV window is just waiting to be hit by highway flying debris, stones, etc.

I would have expected it to be laminated glass in the front.

Another bad design decision

What year is that trailer? Our 2018 174BH had similar (lighter duty, paint matched) cover from the factory. Our current trailer does not have the front window, I'm surprised how many trailers have the window with no cover.

I have found jayco to be extremely unhelpful in trying to get a guard for our just purchased 2020 as well

Imagine shattered glass all over your bed. And not finding it all and cutting yourself.
I wonder who Jayco is using in the legal department.

When we had the 195 we hardly ever raised the rock guard to have better lighting through the window. Heck we were asleep. The unit we have now has no front window and we do not miss one.

Never even occurred to me it would not have a window cover! Jayco has been less than helpful!
