205/75 to 225/75

Hello all,

2006 27'BH

In need of mew tire and I am considering increasing the size to gain a little load cap.

Currently running 205/75 goodyear, they are just old with very little miles.

I hate the thought of chinese anything on any of my vehicles. I run Michelin LTX of BFG but neither make a tire that fits my trailer.

Any suggestions for what to stay away from or what to buy??

Thanks,
Chris

I just replaced the tires on our 2005 27BH. Instead of going up a size you could just go up to a higher load range. I replaced the older load range "C" (1820 lbs) with load range "D" (2150 lbs) and went with the Maxxis (they typically get very good reviews) tires. They're made in Thailand, not China.

I went with the maxxis and I am pleased,

Funny, unless you ask, most retailers just keep forcing buyers to the cheap. The maxxis were 122$ each vs 105ish for the chinese tire.

i went with the original size and increased the load range to D.

Very please overall and added the tire insurance with discount for 15 each.

I also agree to stay with the size, go up in load range and go with Maxxis tires. This is based on watching forums for tire issues, there is a trend in tire failures and that trend leads to China. IMHO
I just purchased Load range E Maxxis tires for my new TT. The tires I am taking off have very few mile on them but they are D's and China. 2 Strikes and I am not waiting for the 3'rd one.

Ok.. now I am intrigued. I have two primary suppliers I work with. One pushes Martin Wheel, the other pushes Americana Tire & Wheel (Kenda and Loadstar rubber). Price on a 225 75 R15 C range is within 5 dollars of each other. Anyone have any inputs on either?

John,

I use Kenda tires on my bicycles, good tires. I have not seen much (nothing) about Kenda tires on RV's on the internet. I assume that's a good thing. Loadstar is also Kenda.

If you go from Load Range C to D, please make sure your rims can handle it. On my White Hawk's Sendel rims I can go to LRD but the rims can only go to 60psi.

They are a very common entry level tire on many travel and utility trailers. Some reviews are not favorable.

Amazon.com: Kenda Loadstar Karrier Radial Trailer Tire - 205/75R14 55C: Automotive

Personally if I was in the market for tires, I would spend a little more and get a better quality tire. Your family is worth it.

You might gain a little "load cap", but are your axles up to the task? More often than not the axles are the limiting factor.

Something else to consider... Will you clear the larger diameter tire? My brother inlaw did this (by accident) and it really limited his clearance between the two tires and wheel well (although there were never any signs of rubbing). On the plus side, the larger diameter tire would actually rotate less times per mile and maybe save wear on the wheel bearings???

I will get Maxxis load range D, when I replace my Chinese tires. My rims are rate to 60 PSI. Doesn't mean you have to put 60 lbs in the tire. I will probably run slightly under.

I would run 60 if it were me ... rolling resistance when towing is major ... think about it this way. Have you ever rode a bike with the tires low ... major difference when they are pumped up ... now imagine the weight of your trailer with underinflated tires how much harder it is to pull
