212QB Sofa and Maintenance

OK, I'm not the smallest guy, nor the most flexible at my advanced age (my DW says it's older, not old, but sometimes...). My question is, what are people doing with trying to do maintenance to the bits and pieces under the jackknife sofa. I was looking at the bypass connections in there trying to do some work and I felt like I was being eaten by some hungry, fabric monster. Is there some sort of locking clip that I have missed or some modification that would allow the thing to propped open so that I don't have to try and hold it up with my shoulder as I climb into the mouth of the beast?

Following. I put my groceries under the sofa. It's our "pantry" when we travel.
I would like to know how to hold it up also.

I've seen people take the panel at the front of the sofa along the floor and convert that to have hinges or be attached with Velcro to allow access to under the sofa.
