23MRB Close To Buying Late in 2018

First time posting here. We have a 2017 Chevrolet 1500 Silverado DC 4x4 Z-71 with 3.08 gears towing package.
We are former Diesel Pusher owners. Sold everything to give up RV'in all together. But decided we love RV'in and to much (After we bought our truck) So

We fell in love with the 23MRB, I just wanted to touch bases with other Jayco owners and get their opinion and suggestions.

Please do NOT suggest I get a bigger truck cause it ain't gonna happen.

Thank You for your time LeeB

You will have no problems with that tow vehicle. We have the 2017 version and absolutely love it. I like the new layout.

Thanks for the posting , I have to ask has there been any problem's with your trailers?

Like I said I am learning the towing world, I know I have to get a WDH any recommendations size and style? I also understand I will be needing a monitor for inside the cab of my truck, and recommendations on that? Plus any other things I should be on the look for?

Thanks so much LeeB

I have had the trailer in for work a couple of times. Once to adjust the slide out and one other time for some very minor issues. Other than that it has been trouble free. I have a Husky centerline wdh that the dealer installed for me. I have been very impressed but it’s the only hitch I have ever had so I can’t compare it. I have towed through some pretty steep grades and through a pretty good thunderstorm with no sway issues. I definitely know it’s back there because my tow vehicle is working at the upper end of its limits but I have never felt unsafe.

I also have the Husky centerline WDH, no issues. Have had no major issues with the trailer, we love it. Remember when towing, its not a race!

Smurf, very true. I learned to slow down and keep around 60 to 65. I actually enjoy getting there. All part of the adventure.

Thanks for the tips about the Husky WDH I'll check it out. As far as not being in a race I learned a long time ago to slow down and let the "Truckers" fight you instead if me fighting them. After I am retired and they are working so they can retire one day...

Glad to hear you both have no had a of problems. Have either one of you considered removing the outside kitchen? I sure would like more outside storage. It's just the 2 of us and don't see us using the outside kitchen.

I don't really a Dealer close so I am leaning towards ordering on line and having it delivered that's like 500 miles from me. They have already quoted me a price I can live with. I may take their offer to a dealer that is about 150 miles from me and see if they will match it..

Thanks again. LeeB

P.S. What size Ball do you have? 2" or 2 5/16?

Ball is 2 5/16. Outside kitchen to remove fridge is easy, I would assume to remove the rest would not be that difficult. Others have done so to provide additional storage space. We use ours.

Thanks so much.... I am looking at Husky WDH with sway control and I like the way it looks...... I am going to buy something before I get the trailer so I have it and do not have to pay the Dealer mark-up....

Thanks again LeeB

FYI, 3.08 is a very high rear end ratio. High rear end ratios can potentially lower your tow capacity quite a bit. Have you verified that your truck's tow capacity (when equipped with a 3.08 rear end) is sufficient for your needs?

Max towing should be 7000lbs. If the trans temp is high just add a additional trans cooler to the HD cooling package .

Gotcha, I understand your truck's window sticker says you have a 3.08 rear end.

However, according to the 2017 Chevy Silverado towing charts a 4x4 Crew Cab (short bed) 5.3 with a 3.08 rear end has a maximum tow capacity of 6,100 lbs. Depending on the specific configuration of your truck it could actually be even lower.

The Jayco 23MRB has an empty weight of 5560 lbs. and a GVWR of 7,250 lbs. Your loaded weight will probably fall somewhere in the middle, say 6,500 lbs.

Question is, will you be comfortable towing a 6,500 lb. trailer with a truck that only has a tow capacity of 6,100 lbs. (maybe even less)?

Well crud (or another word) the window sticker actually says 7200 lbs GVW rating......... There is no way I can get a new truck (just got this one). Not sure what to do at this point MaMa loves the 23MRB and if MaMa ain't happy, well we won't even go there..... I wonder what $$$$ it would take to put the 3.42 gears in?

We have a 2017 23MRB and tow with a Chevy Express (1500). We have had no issues climbing or decending 8% grades. In CA, I travel at 59, Utah, Arizona, 65. No problems. Love the MRB. With the Murphy Bed up during the day the trailer seems much larger. Viturally no real issues after 1 1/2 years.

You have a 2500 rear end. I can't help but wonder what the gear ratio is. Do you have any problems climbing Mission or Altamont Pass? I am very familiar with those.....

Thanks LeeB
