24RBS slide fail to retract

New here and did a search but wasn’t able to find anything specific to my problem. I own a 2017 24RBS and the slide won’t retract. It extended with no issues or red flags.

I’ve checked all fuses and power supply. Have power to the panel and replaced fuses that appeared fine but looked “iffy”. Power throughout the trailer to other devices is good. Only thing I haven’t checked (ran out of daylight) is for power at the motor.

My question is… is there another fuse or breaker somewhere in the trailer specific to the slideout? Maybe a reset? Other than that, any advice? Owner’s manual was useless.

Thanks in advance

What type of slide is it? Rack and pinion, schwintek etc.

Can you verify power / ground at the motor and switch? If one side of the switch failed you can simply reverse the wires to get the slide in.

If needed you can manually retract the slide usually by using a ratchet or long manual crank handle at the motor. The process is slightly different depending on year / model.

Any other fuses or breakers other than the main panel?

I don't believe so - That's why I would start checking voltage at each end. It will give you a starting point to trace the point of failure.

I agree with Marcm, probably not any more fuses (unless one was added by a PO). Does the extend still work (you should hear the motor groan or a “ratcheting” noise)? If so it’s unlikely the motor. Switch or damaged wiring would be my next suspects.
Post what you find (inquiring minds).

Sidenote... can anyone direct me to a resource for a wiring diagram? My owner's manual and documents don't have one. If they were there at time of purchase they're not now (I'm the second owner). Haven't had any luck online.

My specific question is regarding the wiring at the a-frame of the unit. Appear to be a couple relays and one very large fuse of some type.

You can get wiring diagram directly from Jayco by emailing customer service with your VIN. I am not sure what your current situation is. Are you stuck at a campground or in your driveway? Jayco will respond but it may take a little bit.

The large 30 amp fuse at the A Frame protects the main 12 volt wiring from the battery. If your power loss is isolated to just the slide It won't be your problem. I would check for voltage at the switch and at the motor and try and isolate where the problem is from there. Tell me what's good and I will be able to help tell you what's bad.

Excellent...thank you sir.

We were fortunate with this one. Happened in the driveway getting ready for the season. Only pressing issue is a trip to Caldwell in a couple weeks. I'll let you know what I find.

Could be an automotive type breaker under the trailer mounted to the frame fairly close to the tongue. They get rusty and burn up.

If coroplast cover, look for a opening that has been cut and covered to find it.

Found a picture in an older post (fuse between battery and converter) but was unable to copy it to here. It shows two green wires culminating into a rubberized, covered holder of some type, located inside the a-frame on the cross member. Can anyone tell me what fuse is supposed to be in here? Mine has a "too big", self resetting fuse in it now. Would like to replace with the proper fuse and the schematic I requested from Jayco does not show this.

Still trying to track down my issue. No bueno so far.

That is the 30 amp in line fuse I mentioned earlier. It protects the main 12 volts from the battery. If your slide in is the only thing not working that is likely not your problem. Did you verify power at the switch and or the motor?

I confirmed switch is good with power in, power out. Again, ran out of time (weather, light) and wasn't able to get to the motor. Will do so this weekend.

The fuse I mentioned above is not correct and wanted to replace with the proper one. Trying to clean things up as I go. Thanks Marcm157...appreciate the help.

Electrical...yet another skillset I wish I had.

No worries troubleshooting electrical is just step by step. There are some great guides posted by another member here - I believe it's JimD. I will search for them and see if I can locate. They are an awesome step by step. My philosophy on troubleshooting anything is tell me what's good and I will tell you what's bad...

I do not have a Jayco camper but on our Rockwood there is a 30 amp larger fuse in a fuse holder by the A frame for each slide out. I had the one for the larger slide blow once when I held the switch to long when retracting the slide while only on battery. We also have a wardrobe slide out and there is also a similar fuse in a fuse holder for that slide. On ours both fuses are in rubber holders with a cover that closes over the fuse and both are 30 amps.

If you go to Lippert's website you can download the manuals for your slide. Not only the operator, but the installation and trouble shooting.
