Any idea on what caused the roof to rip and peel back? I have to wonder if a previous renter may have hit something and damaged it.

I think it was a manufacturer defect. The trailer we received was brand spanking new. Long story short, I actually had to drive back the next day to get it as they had to prep it. (four hours wasted). What I think happened was a part of the roof in the front somehow came loose and the wind caught it and just went to town. I got a guy coming tomorrow about 10a to fix it/patch/put some gum on it to get us home so the dealer can fix it correctly. There is 1 (one) RV dealer in a 20 mile radius and they couldn't guarantee they could even get it in tomorrow to work on it. Here are two pics from yesterday:

actually its the end of our trip and Im glad it happened now and not at the beginning. . Five weeks ago today we started our cross country journey and after he gets its patched, we begin the 14 hour drive back to Michigan. (not in one day)

quick update:

Got it patched, stapled, bonded and caulked this morning and it survived the trip to at least Eureka MO. We waited a couple of hours before hitting the road so it would have time to set. The repair cost just over $300, which the dealer has said they will reimburse back to me.

Thanks again for everyones help and suggestions. This was one thing that Duct Tape could not actually fix, believe it or not!

Safe travels to everyone on the road!

I am so sorry this happened to you! I remember how excited you were to be getting the 26bh for your long trip and then ended up with the 264bh. I hope you got to, at least, enjoy the bulk of your trip. I am now concerned because I have had a large, I mean LARGE ripple, not bubble (about the size of a baseball bat) in three places of my 264bh roof. After calling the dealership they said it was "a common thing" on rubber roofs but the more I read on JOF, the more I realize that if it's bigger than the size of a nickle or a quarter it is not right and I need to get back to the dealer immediately before our next trip. I am sorry this happened to you and yours. I'm making sure this doesn't happen to me and mine as soon as possible. We leave in 3 weeks for 9 days in Rhode Island. I'm not dealing with a torn off rubber roof on my way there and then missing our only long stay this summer. Thank you again. And I'm sorry. Enjoy the last few hours of your trip.

Shaner, I would have it checked prior to your trip by the dealer. In looking at a pic from a gas station stop just prior it looks like we may have had a slight bubble forming near the top. It looks like it came out from under the front bracket that holds it down.

We've had a great time and this didn't slow us down. It was a minor few hour delay in returning home, but better now than at the start of our trip. Once I'm home, I'm going to post a quick write up on our five weeks in the 264BH for others looking at buying one.

Have a great time on your trip to RI!
