267BHSW Bed Issue

I admit it. I've had a few more cheeseburgers and burritos than the average dude. My mother shopped in the "husky" section for my jeans, that's right. It is what it is, I carry some extra poundage...

In the middle of the night, I set my elbow down and leaned over to get my bottle of water next to the bed in my 267BHSW and heard a loud noise. The screw in one of the hinges popped out of the (crappy and thin) plywood, making a loud popping noise. Ultimately, I took it in to get it fixed under the warranty after that trip.

Now I want to reinforce the bed. I've seen some framing people put underneath to support the bed (so that it won't sag). I'll be doing that for sure. Has anyone put a thicker plywood in? If so, do you have pics? I'm not sure how thick to go, but I do need to doctor up the bed a bit for comfort (separately) and strength.

We added two mattress toppers and a 3/8" cedar bulkhead under the bed. NO mods to the hinge.

You are not the only one with the problem.

The photo from JayTripperS with the divider between the under bed and pass-through storage will help. Also make sure the plywood base for the bed rests on top of the under bed storage walls. One person on this site said his did not!

Also, if you reinforce the framing under the bed or add more plywood, be sure the gas cylinders (if your trailer has them) can still hold the bed up safely with the added weight.. of course that's the bed's weight, not yours.

Gotcha. I'll check that out. I don't have the gas cylinders, so that should not be an issue.

I have a 26bh and my plan is just to build a short 2x4 wall and not attach it to anything. That way when transporting i can move it for storage. At night or when set up , i can put it in place. Put then bed down and sleep without worrying.

This is what I did. I put a brace across around the upper thigh/butt area and another brace across the shoulder area.

This is the butt area. I have 2x4 legs supporting a 2x4 cross beam. The 2x4 legs are just screwed into the 2x2 supports already there. The cross beam has a notch cut out so that the gas shock doesn't hit it.


This shows the shoulder area. Since it was in the open and I didn't have anything for stability I built a little knee wall. There is a 2x4 plate along the bottom, three 2x4 legs and a 2x4 cross beam across the top. I screwed the bottom plate into the floor to secure it so it doesn't flop around.


Made the bed completely secure. No more sagging or excessive movement.
