27 BH purchase

Hello All and thank you in advance,

I just sold my jayco super C that had countless small issues and we are looking at a 27BH jayflight 2006.

After my last butt woopin, What, if anything could owners tell me i should look for that might be inherent to the model or the year?? ( a certain year has leak issues, or that model has electrical problems.)

Over all they seem to have a decent reputation, but then so did my 2012 super C.

It is priced at 8k and looks to be a clean unit without damage.

Thanks again,
Chris

Chris,

Welcome to JOF

With any brand used RV the most critical inspection should be associated with checking for any type of moisture intrusion...., this can be one of the most costly repairs if not caught early.

Inspect the interior walls/ceiling for any moisture stains, or raised 'dimples' on the ceiling/wall surface. Remove the interior A/C ceiling panel and check for moisture around the A/C gasket and associated wood framing. Check for stains around windows, bathroom tub area, and open all cabinets.

Inspect the roof surface for any damage, check all exterior seams, caulking, etc.. Inspect the outside marker lights, frequent place for water to get in. Look inside all outside storage compartments for any signs of moisture intrusion.

If the TT has a Filon exterior, check for signs of delamination.

Hope this helps.

Bob

+1 on everything Rustic advises. Also, if the tires are original, they are now 8 years old, probably time for new ones. Maybe factor that into your budget?!

Wehad a 2003 27BH. The previous owner mounted an extra cabinet at the foot of the top bunk since storage was limited in the rear bed area. He also ran additional coax cable for another tv. The only thing I was not too fond of was the furnace shared space in the rear storage area.

Chris,
Welcome!! We had a 2005 27BH for 5 years and it was great. We had no problems at all and have since moved up to slightly larger one. Happy camping.

Check the humidity in the walls... most (I am not exagerating) used RVs have small to major water infiltration... The small ones can be addressed easily, but the major one can have caused severe damages

Buy yourself one of these and run it everywhere on the inside walls, you'll see where there is more humidity in the panels,,,that could help you in saying YES or NO to a used TT

Thank you everyone for the responses,

we purchased the unit for 7k and so far I am very happy. The quality exceeds the build of our recent sold 2012 37' seneca.

My only repair as of niw has been to the black water gate valve. The factory aluminum tube design is poor, The rod had bent and would flex instead of closing the gate. 3$ repair, 2 hour mess removing the foam and coraplast.

Anyway, Super happy with the purchase and look forward to being part of the jayco forum.

Congrats on the purchase. The 27BH is a great model, but I may be a little biased.

Hey, I have a 27BH and my black water gate valve also seems to be giving issue, it leaks a little and when I take off the main drain cap gross stuff comes out. I am guessing I need a valve it does move, however doesn't seal 100%. I'm wondering if something is stuck in the groove or something. anyway, I don't see posts on that problem so you got my attention. I've been putting off dealing with it as like you say, looks like a gross messy fix.

Sounds like a great deal !! 7k is a good price. I paid a less but but mine is much smaller and had stuff missing and needed work. If that was ready to roll super deal.

Mine always has a little seep even with the new valve. I would not go through the headache of swapping it out unless it is more than than you can deal with. I just place the hose beneath the opening as i unscrew the cap and catch what little is in there. If the valve is overly stiff or filling the tube then i would brake down and change it out.
