30 amp power
good morning question if I removed my battery for the winter and plug in my trailer to a 30 amp service should I have full power to all accessories or does the battery have to be installed and fully charged?

Shore power hits your converter and feeds all 12v, battery tie in to a 12v is just like a second battery for a diesel, more amps for the device to use. You should be good to go.

Good chance your power tongue jack won't work... Mine didn't as it needed a closed 12v circuit (I think). I never checked my other 12v plug ins or the power stabilizers so I'm not sure it was required for those.
If you're keeping it plugged in - why remove the battery as it'll stay fully charged?

When I leave my units plugged in I always check the battery fluids on a regular basis to make sure the Converter System is not boiling out the fluids...
I sometimes switch out my batteries but very seldom remove them - just leave them sitting on the trailer tongue disconnected. If I see the batteries drop down below 12.5VDC when sitting then I switch them back 'ON' to the trailer converter setup. I have never had my batteries freeze-up sitting outside switched 'OFF' (disconnected) on my trailer tongue.
You read alot of folks rewiring their batteries backwards after removing them for the off season... I marked all of my POSITIVE 12V battery connections with RED FINGERNAIL Polish. Some folks like to take a photo of their battery connections with their cell phone and keep it handy stored on the cell phone.

Dusty, if you do remove the battery and keep your electric going, I would separate/isolate both cable ends coming out of the camper that feeds power to/from the battery. I would then wrap those ends with electric tape or some other insulating material.

Our battery has been removed for the winter and our storage facility has no power to plug in the camper. If I need power I take my Champion 2000w inverter generator down and plug it in with an adapter. Everything works just fine except the A/C [not enough amps from generator] so you should be good to go while plugged into 30 amp w/o a battery as the converter takes AC and feeds the DC.

Excellent point. Something about grounding a battery cable while hooked up to 30 amp w/o a battery could cause converter damage, I think.

when I brought it home from the dealer I didn't plug it in right away and the battery died so I took the battery inside ( was very cold out) to charge but it won't hold a charge so I haven't put it back.

I noticed after a month of sitting my single 12v batt. is dead. Charged the batt. and noticed that the only thing I could find that may have drained the batt. was the stereo was lit but not on? Could this be what caused my batt. to drain? This has happened every time I leave my batt. hooked up and left sitting for a period of time. The batt. checks good under a load test. Now I disconnect the batt. when not in use. I have been thinking about adding a quick batt. disconnect switch. Anyone else have this problem?

Your CO detector also consumes electric when the battery is connected.

love my battery quick disconnect switch! sure easy! keeps those "unseen draws" from killing the batteries. I also put a small solar charger on the batteries to keep them from trickling down while camper sits. so far so good!
this is my first year to have a camper, and first winter to get through, so will see if it continues to work.

Thanks 33, I never even thought about that. How much draw would the two take? I guess I could add off/on rocker switches on both of them so I don't have to disconnect my batt.

The CO detector and any other 12v parasitic draws will drain a fully charged battery in 10 days or less. Battery cutoff switches are a simple install and eliminate all parasitic draw. Here's how I mounted mine.

Thanks TC. Looks like the exact switch I used in my 72 Duster. Looks pretty straight foreword.

Couldn't you just remove the 30 amp fuse instead of disconnecting the battery to prevent the draw?
