314BHDS Grey Tank Question

Hi,

I recently purchased a Jayco Eagle 314BHDS Travel Trailer and cannot, for the life of me, figure out how the grey tanks are divided up. The dealer didn't know what exactly was on each tank, but it seems to me like the only thing on tank 2 might be the sink for the outdoor kitchen. This seems pretty ridiculous. It's also weird because the trailer only lists the grey tank capacity as 40.5 gallons, but they don't say if that's split in half between 2 tanks or if that is divided in some other way.

It just seems weird that I've hardly ever had any water in tank 2, in fact even when it has showed 1/3 full on the panel only a little bit of water comes out when I pull the dump valve.. I've thought about just hooking up the trailer to a dump site, opening the dump valve for tank 2 and then turning on each water source one at a time to see if water starts draining, but the trailer is being serviced for a leak under the bathroom sink so I don't have access to it right now.. Will probably do that once I get it back, but I thought I would post here to see if anyone had an answer in case there is something else I need to get looked at while it's already at the dealer..

Any help would be much appreciated!

I don't know for this as a fact, but 314BHDS was on our short list last time we shopped and what I recall was outside kitchen sink drained to the Black tank. DW and I were really turned off by that.

I don't recall 2 grey tanks on that model, but typically if there are one would be bathroom sink and shower while the other would be the kitchen sink.

Thanks for the reply. Well, we definitely have monitors for 2 grey tanks, as well as to dump hookups and 3 valves (2 grey and 1 black.).. But I'm definitely starting to question the plumbing since it's already been I for service on the plumbing twice at just over a month old.. First time all hot and cold water was swapped (even the toilet put out hot) and now a leak..

Quick update to this. I spoke with Jayco this morning and confirmed that the kitchen sink should be on one tank and the bathroom sink/shower on the other.. This definitely is not the case on mine.. Back to the dealer..

Have been wondering about how quick our tanks fill, especially the grays.....On our WhiteHawk 30DSQB, I was told by Jayco the gray tanks held 45 gallons or 2 tanks each holding 22.5 gallons according to them...Gray 1 is bathroom sink and tub/shower and Gray 2 is kitchen sink.....now the fun part....when my control panel shows full on each tank and you drain it and measure you will get about 14-15 gallons out.....if you fill the tub completely until water backs up in the tub, then drain and measure you will get about 22-23 gallons...same on the kitchen sink, got about 24....I'm sure that was for lines and all....just did measuring this afternoon....even though black tank is suppose to be clean from our last trip this weekend, I decided I didn't want to take a chance on a hot, humid Arkansas afternoon....might have gotten more than I bargained for....btw, our TT is only 6 months old.

Thanks again for all the responses. Taking the trailer out the weekend so I'm going to try and verify everything, but on our last trip I drained #1 grey tank 3 times (kids...).. Tank #2 on the other hand, didn't get drained until the day we left and I maybe got 2 gallons (if that) out of it..

Don't let the cheap gauges ruin your trip. You will soon know when they need emptying. If you want accurate indicators, it will cost $$$.
Google Horst miracle probes. The OE probes are cheap, poorly designed and most people don't rely on them.

I have 2 grey tanks. I use a twist on shutoff on the main drain, with that shut I then open both greys which allows the two tanks to self equalize.

I'm betting Jayco kept the original 32.5 gal grey water tank and maybe added another "small" (8 gallon or so?) grey tank and replumbed the outside kitchen sink to the new smaller grey tank.

I have a 2013 314BDS (not the new 314BHDS) and my outside sink is plumbed directly to the black tank!!! The outside sink is also the low point for the entire black system, so imagine my surprise when I left the tank flush on a little too long and it backed up into the outside sink

I think there have been several complaints to Jayco about this poor design (having the outside sink plumbed directly to the black tank) and maybe their solution was to add a small 2nd grey tank to the new 2015 BHDS. Just a thought.

Good luck getting to the bottom of this and let us know the outcome.

In our new, 2015 32-TSBH there are two gray tanks. One 8-9 gallon that is only for the outside kitchen sink. The second one is about 24-25 gallon and is for all gray water used inside the trailer. I filled and drained all tanks when new to checking things out. Very poor compromise IMO to have such a small, main gray tank in the trailer this size. I was expecting 32.5 gallons (still too small IMO) of usable gary water space as listed in the specs. Heck with the Elite package I have 86 gallons of fresh if needed. I will say this is the only real issue I have found. We've had it out three times and and the large bunk house rocks for the kids!

On my 338 rlts one grey water tank is for the washing machine only. The other handles everything else so I use a waste gate valve http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...=ATVPDKIKX0DER and equalize the two grey water tanks together when needed.

I have the 32TSBH with outside kitchen. The rear grey tank is for the outside kitchen sink only. Front grey tank is for kitchen sink, bath sink and tub.

I have a 2014 bhds eagle with outside kitchen. Only the outside kitchen sink is on grey tank 2
