Our TT has a factory installed hitch on the bumper. Could I get a rack and put my generator (250 lbs) back there?

Yes, as long as you don't mind buying another genset.


I think you are limited to 300lbs back there. The rack is over 100. Plus that much mass bouncing around....


Throw in needing a new sewer hose and bumper.

Please check and see if the hitch is attached to the TT frame. If it is attached only to the bumper, then it probably cannot support that weight.

If it is attached to the frame, I believe there should have been some documentation in your packet.

(As I recall, our TT had hitch info in the packet and brackets on the frame, but we did not order the hitch. Our TT isn't here at the moment so I can't provide any info on the hitch capacity. Sorry.)

I just looked, and the capacity is 300 lbs. (and it's bolted to the frame). I'll be looking for another solution. I was hoping not to have to get it into the back of my truck since my truck sits rather high, but looks like that's what I'll be doing. Oh well, it was worth a try.

But why are you hauling around a 250lbs genset? Isn't that a bit much?


Without the A/C we get along fine with a 2kw (85lbs) genset.

Valid question. Our TT has a 50 amp service (2 AC units) and it gets hot here. Temps around 100 already with high humidity and heat index around 110. We like to be cool inside, so whenever possible, we run both ac units.

Our Champion genset has a 50 amp outlet and it runs both ac units and then some. Couldn't afford the inverter type like the Honda or Yamaha.
