40 amp fuses

Hello,
New to this forum,

I own a 2014 jayco swift 287bhbe and was wanting to know what the two red 40 amp fuses were for n the fuse box. I was at a 30amp serviced lot for the past 4 days andf my battery which is a brand new deep cell battery and that drained down to 7 volts. That I found strange since the shore power was supposed to charge the battery I thought. I did run my ac so musta had some shore power used. Anyone know why my battery drained down and what those 2 40amp fuses are for.

The members here are GREAT!!! There is a lot of GREAT information to be found here. I am sure that you will have information and pictures to share with us... so please do!!

A few things to start with:

- You mentioned new battery.. is it wired properly? The NEGATIVE battery cable is connected to the frame. This cable is usually WHITE. The POSITIVE battery cable is usually BLACK. Unlike what most of our brain cells are used to.
- next is the MAIN 30Amp fuse located by the battery(s), check to see if that fuse is blown (use a multimeter to check if it is blown, visual can be deceiving)
- If you hooked the battery up in reverse just for a second you need to check the 2 fuses in the DC fuse panel that protect the TT from accidental reversal of the battery.

Fill us in on the details.

I had issues with my propane alarm to but the old one was shot so got anther one that has black and red wiring which tie into gray and white wiring which run to the fuse box. One of those 40 amp fuses runs that alarm has it now works just fine since replacing fuse. First trailer I have ever owned so learning is coming slow and fast. Got to upgrade to a three quarter ton eventually. Im pulling my with an 07 ford f150 currently. Working the ol gal

The 2 red 40amp fuses are the reverse polarity protection for the battery. If the battery is accidentally hooked up with the polarity reversed it will blow those fuses to protect the rest of the system. Are all of your circuit breakers turned on?? The circuit breaker for the converter may be turned off and not charging your battery.

I had a similar problem with my batteries draining even when connected to shore power. Then I remembered that CW changed out the batteries last time the had it for service. I checked those 40 AMP fuses for polarity protection and they were all blown. I guess someone crossed up the connections at CW and didn't bother to replace the fuses. I learned if these fuses are blown, the batteries will not charge.

Yes I replaced both 40 amp fuses and waiting next camping trip to see how things go.

This is exactly what happened to me. Just replaced both fuses and going camping tomorrow so fingers crossed
