80 gallon fresh water issue

Just purchased a 2019 242BHSW with the Rocky Mountain package which includes capacity for 80 gallons on fresh water. I have used it twice and have run out of water before the grey water is 2/3 full and the black 1/3 so that is telling me I have used about 40. From what I understand it has two 40 gallon tanks. Is there something I'm missing? It also has the cold climate package so I can't see the tanks because they are covered. Another thing I should mention is the it didn't seem like i put 80 gallons into it. Ive had 40 gallon trailers in the past and it seemed to fill up just as fast.

I just had the same thing happen over Memorial Day. From what I can tell the water is siphoning out of the overflow drains. My trailer has two overflow tubes located underneath on the drivers side, towards the front. They poke out about 8 inches. While driving I could see a trail of water and ended up getting to the site with 1/2 a tank. I emailed Jayco and they said take it to the dealer and have them add some tubing inside the tank to stop the siphoning. It looks like a lot of people put valves on the ends of the tubes to keep the water in the tank.

Welcome to the forum.

I assume you knew the fresh water was full because water was running out of the vent lines, correct? When traveling with a full tank of water, water will slosh into and siphon out of those vent lines. If you search the forum you'll find it mentioned many times.

Folks use a number of different ways to stop the water loss when traveling; some use valves, I use neoprene corks. You just have to leave the vent lines open when filling the water tank. If you don't, the water tank could be pressurized and burst.

I can't comment on how long this will last, but the flow meter I purchased on Amazon has worked great so far. We have been visiting different campgrounds the last couple of months and there can be a big difference in flow rates at the water fill stations.

We also have the 2 40 gallon tanks and have experienced the siphoning issue after filling. Click image for larger version

I bought one of these too. Was like $12 and a neat tool to help assure your full and nothing is amiss. I also tried it on the hookup at a site to see how much we used when camping on an average weekend. Buy one, throw it in your fresh water tote, if you don’t need it someone else might.

Our TT has the same two 40 gallon tanks, and they're connected to each other by one small equalizing hose. It does take a long time to fill them. One thing that is a remote possibility. That equalizing hose may be kinked. I can't think of any other way to see what's going on without opening up the bottom. Out TT doesn't have a covering underneath, so we can see the tanks.

I had no idea a device like that existed. I'm going to get one for myself. Will come in handy when my fresh water monitor quits working again.
