a/c soft start

I just received my soft start in the mail, climbed on the roof and installed it in my coleman a/c. Wow I followed the instructions to the letter put everything back together and plugged the TT into my generator and low and behold it works, my generator no longer struggles when I turn on the a/c.

Did you do your first 5 starts on 30 amp shore power ? Your supposed to do that so it learns your units needs.

Wow I didn't do that, the instructions didn't mention that. Back out to the TT and start the a/c on ground power.

Will the soft start allow the A/C to fire up on a 15 amp household circuit? I pulg my coach into standard outside wall outlet to keep the batteries charged. Wondering if the S.S. will let the A/C start on that line too?

Maybe they changed something. Mine said to do that. I stated and ran for a 10 minute and shut down for 10. And did that 5 times. Then my little Yamaha 2400 ishc started and ran my 15K unit

They mention the 5 starts in the instruction video, thought it was in the written as well. Anyway, the first five starts the computer is learning and optimizing itself for your specific A/C. MicroAir recommends this be done on utility power, not a generator. If you need to start the process from scratch there's a jumper and a process to reset the unit, but if you have only started it once you have 4 more to go and I wouldn't worry about it too much. I would do the next 4 starts on utility power so the unit correctly optimizes itself and works as well as it possibly can. The reset is mostly for moving your Soft Start to a new camper with a different A/C unit.

I purchased my soft start from Appliance and Air which did not say anything about starting the a/c 5 times on ground power. I am using your suggestions about the 5 times, it won't hurt anything and it is better to be safe than have your a/c take a dump on a very warm day.

You said "Soft Start"...was that actually the EasyStart from Micro-Air? I have a Coleman and am considering installing one in my AC.

If you installed a different soft start from a different manufacturer, which one was it, and what price did you pay?

Wow. That’s way cheaper than the easy start. Good alternative.

Well that's about 1/3 the price compared to the one from Micro-Air. Is your AC 13.5K or 15K? Mine is 15k. Worth checking into...thanks.

I purchased the 3500 predator from harbor freight when it was on sale, my champion 3500 was too loud at campgrounds and would die when I turned on the a/c.

Wow, this is good news!!
I will try to buy this same Soft Start for my 13.5 AC, do I understand correctly that my Champion 2k inv/gen will then be able to start the 13.5k??

I tried to find a smaller 7k AC roof mount, but the smallest is 9200 unit, & expensive... Cheaper would be a 2nd gen to parallel, but don't have the space or cargo capacity for it...

So hopefully this soft start might work for mine too
